Doin' a Bit of Ghost Hunting and other Stuff

WOW! I never figured so many of us were on the same page with the hair cut thing! This is good news :-)

Although I am reminded that I never posted pics from Niagara Falls, it is time to move on to Charleston, SC. We just got back in town from our annual 3-day trip to Charleston,. The beach at Isle of Palms was as beautiful as ever. Aside from donating my CK Sunglasses (purchased at a deep discount) to the ocean when I was boogie boarding, the trip was delightful!

We discovered you are never too old to make a sandcastle:

We ate at our favorite pizza place Andolinis:

This being VC's last summer before he heads off to college *sniff sniff* we are maximizing family time and we decided to throw a Ghost Tour into the mix.

Here's the sad part. The guide who took us on the tour *may have been* suffering from some type of early-onset dementia. He couldn't have been much older than me - but he repeated himself to the point where it was starting to make everyone concerned and uncomfortable. This is a kind of touchy thing where no one wants to alert him that the reason we know what an object is was that he told us approximately 1.5 minutes ago!!! :-( He was very knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour - it's just sometimes he got caught in one of those loops...

I felt so badly. Do you step in and say something at the end of the tour? His memory lapses were so frequent within the hour and a half that we were with him that it was very disconcerting. We didn't say anything but it left me wondering  how to handle this type of thing.

We didn't see any ghosts but one member of our group did take an amazing photo with about 20 orbs floating around a gravestone. While I realize a lot of  this can be explained by the flash reflecting off dust in the air, it would be neat if it was an actual ghost!

ahhh - here's an orb in this photo (above the M):

We were equipped with electro-magnetic detectors like the real ghost hunters used, which was a hoot! There was a guy in the group who was having a blast testing everything as we were walking and would explain "I think I've got something here!"

Have you ever come across a ghost? I'm uber skeptical about everything but it is fun to ponder...How would you have handled the situation with the tour guide?

Back from Our Little Jaunt

to one of my favorite destinations in the whole U S of A -- Charleston, SC.

VC loves the beach. As soon as he saw the ocean on the horizon, he said, "My stomach did a little hop when it saw the ocean."

When he wasn't testing out his new skimboard, he was floating around on an inner tube (despite the 60 degree water temp). I played the role of Landlubber.

***********warning: hot-n-sexy beach pic to follow**************

as you can see, I put the "white" in "white" and sure- most of the chicks were wearing tiny string bikinis, but why would you want to do that when you have your LL Bean thermal zip up, denim capris and old lady sun hat? I was fairly easy to spot amongst the sea of scantily clad babes, which was my goal ;-)

I won't bore you with our downtown architecture and touristy pics, other than this one that was taken at The Battery because cannon balls are cool :D

Every trip to Charleston, we make a point of dining one night at our favorite Pizzeria: Andolini's. The 19" pizzas are huge and the boys look forward to it, as well as our yearly pizza slice pic:

To give you an idea of the scale, as well as the "ambiance":

As you can see, I was wearing my "beach attire."

What about you? Do anything special over the holiday weekend?

You'll Never Guess What I Did - Read the Meme to Find Out

Two Pretty Little Skirts nominated me to complete this fun meme:

Rules of the meme. Respond and rework. Answer questions on your own blog. Replace one question. Add one question. Tag 6 people (again, I'm going to leave this open to whoever wants to participate- please let me know if you do!)

1. What are your current obsessions? Twitter, blogging and entering to win giveaways (trying desperately to ease up on the latter)
2. Which item from your wardrobe do you wear most often? My Colorado Clothing Zipper hoodie. It is so soft and comfy and I’m always cold.
3. Last dream you had? That I went to the bathroom and my toilet was missing. Minutes later it was replaced by a much larger toilet that would rise in the air when you sat on it; I was thinking my parents may have splurged on a champion 4 for us (seriously)
4. Last thing you bought? Oh, that would be my um my new belly button piercing – day-um- I got brave! (photos to come) *fyi - this is not related to my new "class" - been wanting to do it for years!
5. What are you listening to? Jason Mraz & Muse
6. What is your favorite color? Lime Green
7. Favorite holiday spots? Hands down, Charleston, SC, Raleigh and Asheville, NC fun to visit, too.
8. Reading right now? The Help
9. Four words to describe yourself. Neurotic Ball of nerves LOL
10. Guilty pleasure? Watching Dateline “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH” (my best Keith Morrison impression)
11. Who or what makes you laugh until you’re weak? Any SNL skit with JT and Adam Samberg, including last week's Mother Lover skit; also videos on Failblog

12. Favorite spring thing to do? Go for a walk
13. Planning to travel to next? Probably Charleston (do I sound like a broken record?)
14. Best thing you ate or drank lately? Ice milk with Chocolate Syrup – yes, a fresh batch!
15. Dream vacation? Sardinia to select my retirement home (just planning ahead)
16. Favorite ever film? Pretty Woman
17. Care to share some wisdom? Try to keep in mind it’s the journey- not the destination- it's taken me a long time to accept this; the "more than a card" painting I won & selected from Cynthia @ A Shimmy in My Spirit is a good reminder. It has a wonderful quote by Paulo Coelho “I discovered that searching can be as interesting as finding." Please visit Cynthia’s site when you get a chance for more inspiration!
18. Song you can't get out of your head? According to my son “the dumb Jason Mraz one.” [Sung in falsetto by VC]
19. Thing you are looking forward to? The end of the school year so I can sleep late on non-work days- woo-hoo!!
20. What makeup item would you like to purchase next? Some electric blue eyeliner- I hear it's back in style!

(yep, that last intriguing question was one I made up)

Next it is time to pass on some more blog bling! Amy, at Bitchin' Wives Club, graciously bestowed upon me the "A Sushi Grade Blog" Award. If you are not yet a follower of Bitchin' Wives Club (what the heck are you waiting for????), Amy is a multi-talented video maker, Karaoke Singer, and all around cool mom.

The "A Sushi Grade Blog is fresh, lively and of superior quality. It is rare, has character and is of good taste." It requires the nomination of 5 blogs.

I hereby nominate some new (to me) bloggers whose blogs I've been enjoying:

Shawn- incredibly talented, impeccably stylish mom to many
Rant Rave Roll- humor with an edge - check out her blog for jokes such as this:

What's The Difference Between Roast Beef And Pea Soup? Anyone Can Roast Beef

My Net Finds - Self-proclaimed internet Surfer Extraordinaire, plus she makes recipes that include chocolate and peanut butter (two of my absolute faves)
Mocha Dad- I've been enjoying reading his thought-provoking blog; plus he and I both survived our respective camping trips recently; a fellow reluctant camper deserves an award!
Brown Eyed Gal - I get to listen to one of my favorite songs of all time (by Van Morrison) while reading her blog

Southern Charm - In Assorted Colors!

As summer fast approaches we are already planning a few excursions to my favorite vacation spot: Charleston, SC.

With views like this (VC juggling on the pier last summer) - you can see why it is near and dear to my heart.

Rows of sherbert (another one of my favorite views!) colored houses are a delight to the eye....

And, we've discovered Charleston is one of the few places we can all relax and where there is something each of us enjoy to do (the beach for VC, Museums & house tours for MB and perusing funky shops for me.) We have many happy memories from our visits to Charleston. If you've never been to this charming city- you are missing out! It is a treat for the eyes. Oh, and did I mention the treats for the mouth?

Take a look at the size of these pizza slices!

8 Things Meme and C.O.W.

I hope all you moms had a delightful Mother's Day. I spent the weekend camping with the boys. More to come on that later. It was technically not "camping," since we stayed in a cabin, but it's close enough for me to consider it camping and I think you'll agree when you see the photos. In the meantime, the cabin, as rustic as it was, had WiFi!!! So, I completed this meme that my bloggy friend Janna Bee tagged me for last week:

8 Things I'm Looking Forward To:
Returning to civilization
Grilled Peanut Butter Cup sandwiches (just had one and all I can say now is "meh")
My next "class" so I can use the brand new zils MB helped me to assemble (he sews better than me)
Going to Charleston over the summer and eating pizza at Andolini's
Not having to shave my legs
Coming up with something else to look forward to - this list is sad :-(
Honda finally diagnosing the problem with my rear brakes so I can drive w/o turning the radio up
Trying this new anti-frizz stuff from Living Proof on my hair- has anyone tried it?

8 Things I Did Today:
Ate a Pop Tart (not the fiber ones)
Took Shower in creepy cabin shower
Saw a catfish on a hook
Entered blog contests that I have minimal chance of winning.
Went on a see-saw
Followed back a ton of people on Twitter - who honestly didn't seem all that interesting.
Went on a swing
Took a bike ride

8 Things I Wish I Could Do
tell a certain somebody where they can go
Be competent enough to belly dance with the group in public one day!
Visit NYC
Be my own boss
Live in a city
Get my nose or belly button pierced
Break my addiction to carbs
Realize it is not my responsibility to keep everybody happy

8 Shows I Watch:
The Office
30 Rock
48 Hours
Celebrity Apprentice
DWTS occasionally

Tag 8 People
Since I did plenty of tagging last week, I'm not going to tag anyone with this meme, but if you do decide to participate, please let me know so I can visit your blog.

And now, for the Comment of the Week (C.O.W.):
The C.O.W. goes to Tammy Howard for her comment on this post:
She said, "My hubs would kill me, too - or - worse yet - stop following me! And if he stops reading my blog, how will he know what's on my mind?"- love their method of communication!

Keep those comments comin' if you would like to be eligible for next week's C.O.W.
