Guess Who Stopped By the MAC Makeup Counter?

Every few months I meet up with a high school friend who also moved from NJ down south - about 45 minutes from where I live. We meet at the mall and always gravitate to the makeup counters and of course, Sephora.

I was in search of the perfect foundation. It is a perpetual quest, really. I had sampled the Makeup Forever HD Foundation, but then I took a gander at Bobbi Brown's Skin Foundation Stick. The color looked almost identical and the finish was a bit creamier which I liked. I ended up ordering it online 15% savings and free shipping/returns on foundations and concealers! plus a couple free samples tossed in.

Over at the MAC area, I tried on some vibrant red lipstick and liner as you can see. It looked a LOT brighter in person. Definitely not for every day.

MB wasn't too excited about it. As a matter of fact, the lipstick was so obvious that when he didn't mention it, I brought it up and he said, "yeah, I noticed." Not a glowing recommendation. Then he said the makeup makeup made me look "mean" - so I guess I will stick with some new foundation for now and use the rest of my current makeup for the rest of my face...

*BTW the head warmer is faux fur!

My Strengths

A friend encouraged me to sign up for Gary Vaynerchuk's Udemy course. He is an energizing speaker - and also a native New Jerseyian, so I can appreciate his no-nonsense approach.

As part of the course, Building a Personal Brand, he encourages participants to "go all in" on their strengths.

So, I quizzed my Facebook friends and I was humbled by their responses. I am going to keep this here in case I am having a bad day and need a pick me up :)

-Drywit you're loaded with it! Such a gift

 -You're very affable

-You have a constant inner shine:)

-Flexibility and patience (skills needed as a background artist!)

- I think you are a good listener

- Drawing

- Easy to talk to.

-Confident but approachable from the start, then amazingly down-to-earth with visible inner strength.

-Eagerness to learn new things, take on challenges and follow thru

-Kindness to us seniors. All ways answers my replies and gives us praise.

-I agree with Kimberly, I love your quick, dry wit! Also you seem very accepting of others. Oh, and let's not forget your amazing knowledge of all things pop culture!

-Your ability to be a realist but also remain an optimist; many people become jaded but you found balance.

-Gosh, there are so many! You're definitely a great listener, you have good observation skills, you're conscientious, prepared and punctual. And I agree with Kimberly that you have a fun witty sense of humor. Oh, and you have Pumpkin!

-Kind, gentle, gracious, simpatico and a good sense of humour

-incredibly down to Earth being such a superstar! Don't know you too well beyond Facebook, so I would say I agree with what others have said smart, sensible, great sense of humor.

-Clever, witty & a good listener!!!

If you are like me, and stuck in a rut not knowing in which direction to head (this has been a recurring theme on this blog lol), I encourage you to do this exercise. It is a good way to start the New Year...After seeing these comments, I am encouraged to continue to pursue the Health Coaching position I applied for earlier in the week!!!

This n' That and Belated Happy New Year!

Carma here. Dusting off the blog again.

Had a fun holiday break. VC was home for 3.5 weeks. He seemed genuinely happy to be home which of course made mom happy ...

He had a relaxing time. Sleeping until 1:00 most days (frusrating!)  but it was much needed after he burned himself out last semester. After his trip to the ER in Idaho on the way home from Thanksgiving, I thought the worst was over, then he had that allergic reaction to one of the medications they gave him, so he headed to Urgent Care a few days after he returned to Utah. Then the week of finals, he was sick to his stomach the morning of 3 of his most major classes. Vomiting to the point he didn't think he would make it to class. He eventually stopped in time but the weeks of illness did wonders for his GPA :/

Anyhoo, it was good to have him back and healthy.

He performed for the epic New Year's Eve celebration in Charlotte and made it on several of the evening newscasts.

Here a professional photographer takes his photo:

We also took a day trip to Greenville, SC. If you are ever in the area, check out the Greenville County Art Museum. They currently have an exhibit by Andrew Wyeth. Pieces by many well known artists are exhibited there.

Took this photo of Austin and what I thought was a cute cuddly bunny painting. Then I saw the headlights headed for said bunny :/

Downtown Greenville is a bustling artsy downtown, worthy of a visit for sure!

So all was going well until it was time for Austin to fly home on January 5th.

Here is a photo before the storm:

Shortly after this photo was taken, he was pulled aside for a "more indepth look" - at which time they swabbed his bag and found traces of fertilizer, which resulted in him being detained by security for over 45 minutes. Long story short, I was practically hyperventilating wondering what the heck they were doing searching him/his luggage for that length of time....and....he ended up missing his flight >:(

Next time we get to the airport three hours in advance. Not going through that stressful of an experience again. Chances are he will be "randomly" searched again. With juggling props in his bag he always seems to get pulled aside. It was likely a juggling gig over the summer where he rolled his props across a lawn while performing that the fertilizer traces got on his bag. Anyway, will be very paranoid going forward when it comes to the airport. I am going to look into getting him approved for TSA-Pre....

Hope your new year is off to a good start!!!
