Carma here. Dusting off the blog again.
Had a fun holiday break. VC was home for 3.5 weeks. He seemed genuinely happy to be home which of course made mom happy ...
He had a relaxing time. Sleeping until 1:00 most days (frusrating!) but it was much needed after he burned himself out last semester. After his trip to the ER in Idaho on the way home from Thanksgiving, I thought the worst was over, then he had that allergic reaction to one of the medications they gave him, so he headed to Urgent Care a few days after he returned to Utah. Then the week of finals, he was sick to his stomach the morning of 3 of his most major classes. Vomiting to the point he didn't think he would make it to class. He eventually stopped in time but the weeks of illness did wonders for his GPA :/
Anyhoo, it was good to have him back and healthy.
He performed for the epic New Year's Eve celebration in Charlotte and made it on several of the evening newscasts.
Here a professional photographer takes his photo:
Greenville County Art Museum. They currently have an exhibit by Andrew Wyeth. Pieces by many well known artists are exhibited there.
Took this photo of Austin and what I thought was a cute cuddly bunny painting. Then I saw the headlights headed for said bunny :/
Downtown Greenville is a bustling artsy downtown, worthy of a visit for sure!
So all was going well until it was time for Austin to fly home on January 5th.
Here is a photo before the storm:
Shortly after this photo was taken, he was pulled aside for a "more indepth look" - at which time they swabbed his bag and found traces of fertilizer, which resulted in him being detained by security for over 45 minutes. Long story short, I was practically hyperventilating wondering what the heck they were doing searching him/his luggage for that length of time....and....he ended up missing his flight >:(
Next time we get to the airport three hours in advance. Not going through that stressful of an experience again. Chances are he will be "randomly" searched again. With juggling props in his bag he always seems to get pulled aside. It was likely a juggling gig over the summer where he rolled his props across a lawn while performing that the fertilizer traces got on his bag. Anyway, will be very paranoid going forward when it comes to the airport. I am going to look into getting him approved for TSA-Pre....
Hope your new year is off to a good start!!!
