RIP Google Reader

My fabulous friend Charlotte turned me on to this blog post - about the demise of Google Reader - Yes, our BELOVED Google Reader is to be no more....

Naturally, it was only a matter of time - Google has already stopped supporting my other fave - Google Friend Connect, then they ditched Posterous (not a biggie) yet all this has me wondering if it is only a matter of time before the plug is pulled on Blogger, at which time my blog will most likely cease to exist as I've done enough flip flopping from blogger to wp to self-hosted wp to blogger back to self-hosted wp and then back to blogger where I am now.

What do you think? Will you miss it? Has Google Reader been your go-to reader as it has been for me for 5 years??

I heard this from FB this morning and was pretty fed up, thinking I'd have to learn another program and be on another learning curve. BUT I've comee across a web page giving some alternatives. I'm now trying out Feedly - automatic transfer of Google feeds so it doesn't require my brain to work (which is good). So far so good. Here's the page of alternatives for anyone interested: http://web.appstorm.net/roundups/rssfeeds/google-reader-is-dead-heres-what-you-need-to-replace-google-reader/

I have to agree that Blogger might go down the Swanee. It depends on if / how it provides them with revenue. They *say* Reader's demise was because of lack of consumer use. Surely not, based upon the horrified reactions I'm seeing. I *suspect* it wasn't making them any / enough money.

not happy at all - google/blogger now sucks. I must try to get my own website. I don't see goog things on the horizon.

Eh. I haven't used it for a LONG time. It made me feel guilty for being over 1000+ posts behind in my reading. So I took the usuals that I read and plugged them into my browser favorites. Adding a few now and then, deleting a few now and then...

When I saw the news, I literally thought my world was ending. And I *really* hope they don't drop Blogger, too. I just started up with a Blogger site again. Bah.

I haven't used google reader in forever. For some reason, it wouldn't let me delete feeds when I didn't want to read them anymore, and that got annoying. So now I just do everything straight through blogger. If they get rid of that... I guess I'll just go back to wordpress, or something.

I have to admit I don't use Google reader, I just go to blogs and read them, also doesn't it mean other people will have to do the same too?

I really hope blogger doesn't go though as I couldn't get my head around Word Press at all.

I do use google reader but also just like going to blogs and reading when time permits.
Hm bloger- would probably carry on via wordpress.

I love google reader, I have no idea how I'll cope without it... I haven't found a good replacement yet. I really, really hope they don't ditch blogspot (although I wouldn't be surprised if they integrate it more with G+ over time)

I'm going to miss it!

I am still in mourning, but will have to check out the one link angelcel sent... I wouldn't worry too much about Blogger; I mean, haven't they futzed around enough with all the Google blog stuff already?!

Well...I was going to say no, that I won't. But then? I tried out feed.ly or whatever as a replacement. It looks snazzy and I can customize it, but that's about it. I now can't get rid of the stuff I had from Google Reader that I no longer want to read, but have been easily able to ignore in Google Reader. Now it looks like I'll just have to sift through them all.

So yes, I will miss Google Reader. It might not have been pretty, but at least I could manage (most of) my subscriptions there.

I don't understand why places like Facebook and Google have to take something that could be so incredibly simple and make it complicated. And if Google does away with Blogger, my blog will probably cease to exist as well. Like you, I have done enough flip-flopping through the options, and it's hard enough for me to find motivation to write/post these days. If I had to start over somewhere from scratch, or with an "improved" - as in Google's definition of improved - version, I'd probably just throw in the towel and turn my FB page into a blog of sorts.
