I Think I'll Remain a Blank Canvas

I was reading an article about how tattoos are becoming the "new black" for suburban moms. I was shocked for about half a millisecond.

Last weekend we spent some time on the beach and I noticed we were about the only ones who didn't have tattoos.

Most of the bellydancers in my class have tattoos - one is working on a full arm "sleeve" -

I've personally got no issues with people who have tattoos - some that I've seen have been quite artsy and maybe even 'meaningful,' some not so much, like the one dancer who got a tattoo of a belly dancer on her side (a large one) - the face wasn't all that pretty so she was looking to have it fixed by covering part of it with some more hair. The body looked great though....

The author of the post mentioned that she spoke to her tattoo artist and he said his next place was going to be smack dab in the middle of a suburban enclave, since that is where most his customers come from.

Not to knock suburban moms because I guess I can technically be considered one, but you know once the main clientele is suburban moms, well, it sort of takes out some of the edginess.

I think it may get to the point where those who don't have tattoos are considered the edgy ones, so I'll wait for that to happen and save myself the pain ;-)

Headed to My Fave Kind of Doctor Today - WOOT! <--- not exactly

Getting old is the pits. Remembering back to when I was young - there was never a concern that I'd ever get anything other than one of those postcards in the mail two weeks after the visit saying that everything was A-OK, so when I got a phone message from the doctor's office, I was thinking Holy CARP!!!!!!

Figured it was not a big deal and that I'd just follow up at my yearly visit next year instead of at the 4 month point like they recommended only they said that was not gonna happen...

So today I'm off to the "lady part" doctor for another check.

Being one of those who never programs numbers in the phone or writes them down, I had to google her information. Have you ever looked at the doctor reviews for your doctor when doing a google search? You will find out all sorts of interesting things you wished you never knew, such as this review about the doctor I'm about to visit:

I wouldn`t let this woman deliver my dog`s puppies. She is cold harsh judgemental and just plain rude!

Out of the 8 reviews on that particular site she averaged two stars out of 4 stars possible.

Now, I've been seeing this doctor for at least 8 years and she has already performed a minor sugery successfully - sure she's not the friendliest. As I said before about my piercer, he has better bedside manner than most doctor's I've seen...

Anyway, hopefully it is nothing major. Dr. Oz happened to be doing a segment this morning on the exact same reason I'm headed back to her office, so with the Good Doctor's advice in my back pocket, I think I'm well prepared knowledge-wise even though I can't recall the exact name other than it started with an 'A'.

What are your thoughts on getting old and doctor review sites???

P.S. I've been out of town which is why you haven't seen me on your site; hoping to get back with everyone this week. Didn't want to announce my trip to the world or my valuable possessions might be missing upon my return, not that we have anything of much value; a burglar would be sorely disappointed :D

America's Got Talent?

I'm not normally a big TV watcher outside of real life crime dramas. Speaking of which - did anyone catch 48 Hours last night - with the female cop killer? Very intriguing that it took UH 20 YEARS!! to arrest her given the situation....and her beady eyes - very creepy....

It was a nice contrast flipping between the seriousness of 48 Hours and the train wreck that was last night's Americas Got Talent. Talk about incredibly underwhelming!!! A few of the singing acts were noticeably off-key and the juggler!!!! Good Lawd - what a mess that performance was. To be fair, I did not see him in the previous shows so maybe he was spectacular and just having an "off" night. People have suggested many times to VC that he should audition but he brushes it off because jugglers have never been shown much respect on the show, especially in the Hasselhoff days - His disdain for jugglers was fairly obvious. So we were surprised to see a juggler on last night.

VC was about to head to bed when he decided he'd replicate the trick that the juggler did as his finale - and didn't quite pull off: juggling 5 clubs on a rolla bolla.

He ran to the basement with 5 clubs - hopped on the rolla bolla and did it, the first try.

Of course there wasn't the pressure of having an audience - but still....

He is convinced that to get on the show as a juggler you need to have a schtick, and he is not big on that - he is more into the sport side of juggling without the clowning.

But you never know.....Maybe he'll be one of those jugglers that is in their 70's when he decides to audition and then he'll get on the show since everybody loves and old person with talent :D

What's up with you this week?

This Video is Killin' Me

As you can see I have some free time this weekend. VC saw me watching this video and asked me what gossipy smut (or something like that) I was watching. I couldn't help it, the video is such a train wreck, I had to see it a second time.

If you are unfamiliar with the story, Courtney Stodden is a 16 year old aspiring country singer and her new husband, Doug Hutchinson, who is 51, is famous for acting in The Green Mile. How Lara Spencer was able to keep a straight face, I do not know...

But never mind all that, watch the video - you can speed up to about the 3/4 mark where she starts gazing at him like a pRon star and licking her lips while he talks like she is about to pounce on him.

Every move she makes is so contrived it is insane.

Good to know she was a virgin when they married - just watching her talk about that is a hoot too, like it was a big hardship - SHE IS ONLY 16!!!!!!! Was it really that difficult to wait?? And WTH are her folks thinking!!!!

View the end where she is prancing down the street walking her dog. Maybe these things are starting to freak me out now that VC is 15 - I warned him not to ever hook up with a chick like this - so it was another good family learning lesson.

OK I'm done.

Harry Potter Holdout

I know this is a very controversial post. But it needs to be addressed...

Last night I made this update on my personal facebook page:

"I know all the Harry Potter excitement is brewing; I plan on seeing it about 3 years from now if it is still available on RedBox then"

It was quickly met with gasps from the Potheads, including this comment from my friend since childhood:

"Your lame, acting old"

Ignoring the fact that she used improper grammar, am I the only one who has no desire to watch Harry Potter and whatever this #7 movie is called???

I was getting tired of the updates on Facebook - people complaining they would have to wait over 24 hours to see the movie - and others saying they'd be out at midnight. As I've said before - there are very few things that entice me to go out and do anything in the middle of the night or very early morning. Harry Potter and Twilight for that matter do not fall in that category.

Those of you who have been waiting for years to see it, more power to ya. At least with me not standing in line to get a ticket, you'll be able to get to the ticket window earlier :D

Oh, and I maturely replied to my friends comment with a simple " :P "

P.S. If I am really acting "lame and old" - feel free to nod in agreement with my friend.

P.P.S. Still no idea what script is causing the internet explorer line error. If you are able to view my blog on firefox or chrome, it should work splendidly though. If I get inspired I'll deactivate and reactivate more plugins over the weekend to see if I can find the source of the problem, but that is not likely.

I Am Sick of Computer Stuff!!!! And Life Update

Thank you for bearing with me until I can completely straighten out all wonki-ness associated with my site. It looks like the server is back up, which is a good thing. If you are still having trouble viewing my site and getting an error code, please send me an email with the code. As much info as I can get will be helpful to get all problems resolved soon.

I was discussing with a blog friend today some of the pros and cons of leaving blogger and going to self-hosted. Well, one con about self-hosted has been fairly obvious - i.e. complete site blackouts from time to time. If you are happy with blogger and are more interested in posting than in dealing with technical glitches, you may want to stick with blogger.

My PC, which is about 6 months old has also picked this week to crap out on me. I've spent hours on chat with the folks at HP, and while it seems to be running for now, I'm not ready to sit back and relax because it was working fine earlier in the week after a boot - up repair, but now minutes ago it went to black screen again and I had to go into recovery mode :-(

One of the benefits of going back to school in the fall will be time away from the computer. Some folks love to tinker with all this technical stuff. I am not one of those.

Give me a happy creative project and I'll be in my element, no pun intended. This other crap makes me want to pull my hair out...

And to say I'm not necessarily surrounded by patient people - well, yeah, I'm not necessarily surrounded by patient people....

To be the house Management Information Systems Department/Chief Computer Repair Officer is a role I'd gladly give up.

Enough of my whining.

Quick synopsis of other things going on: I've been searching Dress Codes for my new major at school and if it is similar to the ones I've seen online, the required dress code will border on Amish-looking, even beyond the removal of my piercing which is still making me sad.

VC is doing well at diving but he likes to wear a swimsuit that doesn't draw attention because he is not as skilled as the others who have been diving for years. If I could find a swimsuit the color of the diving board and pool tiles, he'd probably wear it. He finished his behind the wheel driver's ed class last week. Next step is to wait at the DMV for 4 hour to get his permit.

I can confirm that I do not have Tb - that was a required medical test before starting school. I've been having a complete under the hood check up and lots of needles - Man, I'm psyched :D Not really, but I must get my mind clear and into study mode by mid-August.

What's up with you?

The Griff: A Book Review

I promise this place will not be transforming into Graphic Novel Central - but I do want to post a review with the help of my 15-year old VC, who also read this latest novel, The Griff. Knowing his love of graphic novels, I signed up for the review with him in mind.

[caption id="attachment_5671" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="The Griff - A Graphic Novel"][/caption]
As soon as I received the book in the mail I tossed it in his room and he finished half the book the first night without my having to nag - if that doesn't speak volumes about the book, I don't know what does.

Getting a teen to read over the summer is no easy task. Here's what he had to say about this story where giant dragonlike creatures take over the world and it is up to a group of misfits, including a hip chick, to help save the planet from complete destruction:

"I wonder if the author has written any more graphic novels, since this one was pretty awesome." Then he pondered why woman typically aren't wearing much when it comes to end of the world books.

There is some adult language in the book but nothing a teen doesn't hear every day ;-) Of course, I'm referring to on the street!!

I enjoyed the artwork and layout of the book, not to mention the action words: Boom, Screeeeeeeeeee, Braap, Snapp....

Written by NYT Bestselling author Christopher Moore and Ian Corson, the book is a fun escape. I read it while VC was at diving practice and it kept me enthralled. BTW, the creatures in the book are called The Griff because they look like the Griffins from mythology.

While reading, I was jealous of the hip young chick because she got to dress all funky like I used to dress *sigh* Learning that I may need to remove my nose piercing when I enroll in school come fall has me totally depressed. I know I'm being childish, but still...I may need to re-read the book to keep my mind of things...

Moving On

I've spent countless hours reading comments under Casey Anthony posts. Talk about wasted time. It was encouraging to read that Vivid has withdrawn their offer for her to star in a "video" because so many people wrote in and expressed outrage.

I have no idea who the genius behind this pic is or I'd give credit, isn't it a hoot???

[caption id="attachment_5664" align="aligncenter" width="130" caption="Party Pals!!!"][/caption]

If we would all stop consuming this stuff (not the photo above - which rocks), me included, there will be no way for her to profit from the death of Caylee.

While reading a post on a popular blog, I came across something disturbing. This photo of Kendall Jenner:

Now, I'm very liberal when it comes to dressing, but this photo made me cringe, because while she is a beautiful girl, she is ONLY 15 YEARS OLD!!! The exact same age as VC.

So while Casey will no doubt exploit Caylee for profit, I wonder how much mama Jenner is making from her daughter's modeling career?? Not that there is anything wrong with a modeling career, maybe just more of a clothed one at this age....

Am I being an old fuddy duddy on this one?

P.S. Did you hear Casey's attorney Jose Baez, referred to her as a "GOOD MOM" ROTFLMAO - yep, right up there next to Mommie Dearest

As We Await the Verdict

If this is not as close to OJ Part Two as it gets, I don't know what is...So as we wait the verdict in the Casey Anthony case, I figured I'd update you on what is going on in my little insigificant part of the world as well as a decision I've made concerning the blog.

1. VC is doing much better. Thank you for all the well wishes. He competed yesterday in the "Show Us Your Best Trick" contest at the swimming hole and won with a Double Side Flip 180, so I'd say he is almost back to full steam. MB won for Biggest Splash as well as Smallest Splash. His secret to winning the former was to bulk up with an extra 5 hot dogs before the jump. He has since posted a calendar on the fridge to chart his weight loss over the next three months...

2. I spent a good part of the weekend, when not watching the fireworks and rooting for the boys in the Pool competitive events, googling "small bump beside nasal piercing," because that's exactly what I have and it's been freaking me out!! It goes up, then some days it's down. Turns out this is a very common problem. Luckily people have posted pics of their noses with the bump. It's better than WebMD. I've stopped treating with antibacterial soap, as I've read that can make things worse. Went out and purchased some aerosal Saline Spray instead since the one in the bottle is supposedly contaminated the minute you open it, which seems a little counterproductive. Anyway, after a flare-up again last night, possibly from overcleaning, it looks better today.

If you are contemplating a piercing, do not do it during the moist summer months. One would think I learned my lesson the last time, but apparently not.

3. I was watching a show yesterday that everybody loves to diss "Hoda and Kathie Lee!" Only for the first five minutes, but it was parachute long enough to learn that the top reason people are denied promotions is....DRUMROLL

piercings!

Considering the new field I'm looking to enter into, perhaps the piercing was not the best possible decision at this time.

But I don't care. I like it :D

I'm sure that attitude will take me far....

4. Speaking of honesty, I came to the conclusion yesterday that I am not going to be posting as many personal pics on my blog. After a quick reality check via Statcounter, I learned that the bulk of my visitors come via keyword searches. Do I need every Tom, Dick and Stefano looking at my personal photos?

I'm becoming more and more uncomfortable with having so much of my personal stuff out there. Wouldn't it be great if most people were deliberately seeking out my blog to learn more about me and my fascinating family??? ;-) If there is one thing I am, it's rooted in reality. Not gonna happen in this blogger's lifetime.

VC thinks that nobody looks at blog posts without pictures.

Guess I'm soon to find out.

As a test, I've inserted an extraneous word in the middle of this post - Did you catch it????

One last comment on the Casey Anthony trial, did you read that lip readers are trying to decipher something she said as closing statements were being read. They've determined it was either "It isn't his fault" or "It's his fault." Wow, that's insightful!!!!! Maybe I should consider going into the lip reading field if that is the level of accuracy that is needed :D
