Hit Me!

VC's school is not yet out for the summer, but the vacuous end of school activity time has already begun.

After dinner last night VC took out his deck of cards and suggested we play a couple card games. We started with Black Jack (for fun, not profit) and then 5 Card Draw. When I suggested going back to Black Jack, VC said, "nah, I already played that all day (at school)." Well, that was an unexpected thing to hear!

Here's a funny: He asked one of the kids to cut the deck (and this child had srsly never cut the deck) -- He said to VC, "but then how are we going to play??" Wonder what planet this boy has been living on...

What valuable activities have your kids been doing to fill up the days til the end of the school year?

Awwww bless! This boy may well have been living on my home planet of Innocenti Major. To this day, I *still* feel out of the loop sometimes and say stuff that makes eyes roll! :)

We used to play Black Jack in school, too.
Then, I had a job where my direct manager wanted to play cards for about an hour in the morning before we started working. He was pretty serious about it, money was on the line! Of course, one always had the option of NOT playing. But that meant working while everyone else played cards.

His older brother owned the company, I was just trying to be a good employee ;-)

My mom is from a TRUE Italian family & she said her uncles taught her to play poker at a VERY young age... haha! She woulda known how to cut cards like in kindergarden! :)

Today is board game day. She has forgotten her board games by the front door.
Glad to see that the boy does not gamble. Good for him.

School ended for us three weeks ago, which seems like another lifetime. I vaguely recall a field day. Then The Midge was Principal for the Day. They also went to a nearby park for a water park. Oh, I pulled her out one day for an appointment and then another day to leave on vacation early.

Really, what's the point of the last two weeks of school?????

What a sheltered life the cut the deck kid must be living! Sheesh!

End of the year days in school are pointless, but hey, it's a reward for a year of crap.

Awww poor sheltered friend. :)

I know my brother was surfing the net and playing games on his phone at the end of his school year. I wish we had had smart phones when I was in high school!

Movies! My Kids use to watch a lot of Movies because inevitably it would rain so the outings would get ruined. Many of the movies, at least in High School were connected in some way to the last unit.

I can't complain, my children were blessed with a very good school district. One is heading to law school and another to college, so their educational years were successful!

I never played cards in school, but during high school, me and my friends would skip the last few days. It was weird, we had finals, and then we were expected to come in for another week to pretty much do nothing. On one of those days we skipped we ended up at a local park, climbed on top of one of the pavillions and worked on our tans. We ended up getting kicked out of the park and a $75 trespassing ticket.

I love that you clarified that you were going to play for fun and not profit. ;)

I remember those last few boring days of school! What a waste of time!

I remember my schooldays, we also played cards for fun! Hmmmm, I wonder if teachers manage to have a quick game of solitaire or free cell in the computer in between classes :-)

clever! i agree with jayne that i, too, can feel very out of the loop and say ditsy things but sometimes in a good way :) like life in other areas takes precedence over the every day commonalities...

My kids are happily hanging in FL with my parents. School has been out for a week already. But the last week of school they watched a lot of movies and played outside.
