Shower Much?

Yesterday I was reading a post from a big-name blogger -- the kind of blogger who has readers register in order to leave a comment - and who still manages to get over 100 comments per post (not per week - or millennium in some of our cases).

I'd shudder to think of the deafening silence that would occur should I enable comment registration on my blog...

This blogger wrote about the fact that she showers ever other day or sometimes every other other day. And it was not for water conservation purposes, although that is a nice side effect.

Readers were writing in with suggestions as to how to extend the shower hiatus even further, including using special hair powder and baby wipes....

As someone who has been chided most my life for my lengthy showers (I'm workin' on shortening them, so environmentalists relax)....I can't imagine a day without a shower. The last time I skipped a shower was either due to surgery or a camping trip many years back when I was too spooked to use the shower. What can I say? I like to feel squeaky clean.

I did not realize until reading her comments that there were so many non-showerers. Have I been living under a rock or spending too much time in the shower?

Unless I'm living on Survivor Island, there's going to be a daily shower going on over here!

I like to shower twice a day when I exercise! Maybe she doesn't live in a warm climate like I do, where you get all sticky just from going outside.

Nope, I'm just like you. I need to shower daily or I just feel gross. lol

I read that post, too but not the comments. Most days I shower twice a day. I don't get why people would want to be dirty.

I love very few things more than I love to stand in a spray of very hot water. I used to shower 2 or 3 times a day. I've cut that back to one shower daily, and am working on shortening the length of time I'm in there. But I don't think I'll ever cut back enough to skip daily showers entirely.

Too funny. I was just telling a friend of mine, after having literally 10 weeks of days where I had an obligation to be somewhere every single day, I just wanted a day where I didn't have to take a shower.

Tomorrow is that day, my friend. And I am thrilled.

I didn't there was even room for discussion on this. You shower every day. Period. Unless you are dead. Period.

I'm with you -- a shower a day keeps the stink away...

I would die without a shower. Seriously.

Every day or die.

Sometimes even twice.

Uggghhhh! Can't even think about it!

I guess people are welcome to shower whenever they want, but those folks who don't shower daily need to please stand somewhere far away from me.

Gross.

'Nuff said.

I shower at least once daily and lately after having been out in the nasty 80 degree weather, it's been twice!

I can't imagine missing a shower either! After a day of wrestling and running around with my boys there's just no feeling better.

clever! i like the end comment "...or spending too much time in the shower?" clever...hmmm...i could easily write a post on this topic. see i'm a hippy type so i could do the non-shower for a day or so for reasons like to keep the natural oils in my hair but i love BATHS...not for the cleanliness so much as the soak and heat and aromatherapy bubbles and relaxation...my hubby on the other hand is the clean freak...or shower freak...he literally takes a shower when he first wakes up, one after working out, one just because (i may be exaggerating on this one) and then one before bed. so three a day...easily...interesting topic!

Ewwww!

Is this person married? I can't imagine crawling into bed with someone who hadn't showered in a few days...Yuck!

I work pretty hard some days. To me, there's no shame in getting dirty. Staying dirty, however, is unexcusable. Sweat doesn't stink, two day old sweat smells atrocious!

If you're living under a rock then I am too - but at least the air smells sweet under here! Now I'm intrigued to know who is the Ms Stinky around here. Some us (me) have the nose of a bloodhound so after 2+ days she must smell as high as a kite. Very unpleasant.

Hmmm I shower every other day in winter, but I shower twice a day in summer, it depends, if I still smell like a flower, and I don't sweat and I don't feel I need it, I don't.
That means I'm a big blogger?

What is that smell ?

I shower most days, but I don't wash my hair every day, because it looks nicest on the second day after washing - crazy hair! On the other hand, I spend about one minute in the shower, so I don't think it's going to destroy the environment...

I shower every day too but I have noticed that it seems to be a trend of not showering every day and I was wondering where that has come from? I hate to inform people but by the end of the day it is noticeable so telling her to stretch it is just gross. I have sat next to people at school events and movies and often wondered if they had missed their shower of the day, so really they are only fooling themselves if they think they don't eventually start smelling because the do!

Eeewwwww....

Well it's good to know that the other folks reading this blog are sweet smelling too ...

OMG I can't imagine not taking a shower every day ... most days two. I get up early to make sure I'm showered before my kids can even think about getting up.

I would love to know who that stinky blogger is ... :))

People used to take a bath infrequently..they also was no air conditioning and they worked physically harder- with no deodorant! Dresses used to weigh a lot more, and went to the floor! I remember when I was young, the smell of people- not in a good way!

I live in constant fear of B.O. If anyone smells bad around me I assume it must be me and I find a private place where I can sniff myself and fortunately it never has been me. I constantly say to my husband, "I stink" and he always replies, "No you don't". This would all lead you to believe that I shower every day, but I will be honest and say that sometimes that does not happen. Fortunately, now that my daughter is older it is becoming a rarity not to shower everyday. When she was first born it seemed like I might not ever get to have a shower again.

I remember reading about new mamas that didn't shower except for a couple times a week after they brought their babies home. That was NOT me. I like feeling so fresh and so clean clean!

I need a shower every day ..and some don't which is fine..I'm more curious as to why 100 people felt the need to comment or care about a shower or lack thereof...That's what someone who registers commenters writes about..holy shi--...!!...that just seems sad to me...Im rethinking what I should blog about..that's why I havent posted...shoot me the day that I comment on that or the day I write about it...Oh sh-- I guess you can shoot me now because I wrote about my broken shower.....bang..! bang..!...sorry I've just had three excellent cosmos...

Ew. I want to go shower right now after reading this. How can you not shower every day???

I agree with you--nasty camping conditions or surgery are the only real acceptable reasons for not showering.

Though I think a few years ago, I was sick sick sick and just laid in bed and dozed and read and thought about dying and didn't shower for two days. But only two...

p.s. making someone register to comment makes me ill. I believe I know who you're talking about - and I am pretty sure it's one of the reasons I stopped visiting her blogs.

I absolutely have to shower every day. Especially since I try to partake in some kind of exercise activity 5 days a week and it would just be all kinds of wrong if I didn't wash off afterwards. (Especially after one of my hot yoga classes when I'm a sweaty mess.)

On non exercise days I don't necessarily have to wash my hair, but I still need to clean my skin. I feel all funky otherwise.

Ok, so in the winter I tend to shower every other day, unless I work out in which I will shower every day. When I am menstruating I may shower twice a day, but when I am really lazy on the weekend I may not shower on Saturday or Sunday. In the summer I shower at least once a day, but may not always wash my hair. And I spend a lot of time camping in the summer so I don't shower on those days.

Even though I may not get a shower every day, I probably still shower 365 times a year.

Yankee Girl said...

Oh, and I ALWAYS shower before getting a massage.

Slamdunk said...

Ha, if I did not shower daily there would be rioting in the streets. Though I do remember just after undergrad on vacations, my friends and I would count swimming as a shower--and we swam frequently. Yuck...

Laura said...

Yeah I am kind of surprised by the lack of showering too! I shower every (and sometimes twice) a day but I do try not to shampoo as often because it dries out hair but realistically that doesn't happen either...don't these people exercise!?

Bethany said...

Hmm, I must have missed it too- because I shower every day! Sometimes twice, if I get icky during the day...haha!

God you guys are all making me feel a little dirty.

I do not shower every day. I just don't have the time! I have two young children and a puppy to get out of the house to childcare and then to my work before 8:30 with no one to help me. I am not superwoman. Okay, my pity party is over now. I wish I could shower every day though... my hair can get a little weird without it! Thank goodness for clips.

I never go two days without a shower, though. That's too much for me.
