Beware the Rose Hips Lady (or me)

Yesterday I was at the local big box retailer and I was perusing the vitamins looking for some calcium when I overheard the lady next to me talking to another customer (whom she did not appear to know) asking her if she knew what Rose Hips were and trying to engage her in conversation. I purposely looked straight ahead at the shelf lest I get caught up in the Rose Hips discussion.

About 45 minutes later, I was about to finish my shopping trip when I came across some corn for 19 cents and ear -- never one to pass up a bargain, I went over the bin and started up a conversation with an older gentlemen who was shucking some corn. We chatted about which ears looked tasty - and I learned that it is generally best to select the ears that are widest at the base. He gave me a friendly goodbye and wished me well -- after teaching me the finer points of corn.

It was then that I realized that I had turned into the Rose Hips lady!!!!

Are you a chatty shopper??

P.S. I apologize for my tardiness in visiting your blogs. I have been away from the computer caught up in a hectic schedule. Will try to play catch-up today.

P.P.S. That and I am still trying to locate the Whitesnake 45.

Shopping is a get it over with experience for me--no conversations or other distractions between the objective and the transport vehicle.

Can you tell I am not the best shopper?

Enjoy your day.

I'm bad... I'm usually a chatter... why my husband hates to go anywhere with me! :)

No, I'm not.
You see, short and concise I am ;)
Bye darling!

I'm the harried lady you see at the store who just wants to get in and out and not talk to anybody and will run you down if you get in my way...

Just the way I pick out food apparently makes me some kind of expert! People are always asking me questions about a cut of meat, or what to look for in produce....

I'm not chatty. I'm usually just scolding the kids to stop touching everything.

What are rose hips anyway?

And no...I'm not chatty with people when I shop. Usually when I go to the store, I have a plan of attack and no one can distract me from it.

This doesn't mean I'm not polite...I just don't have full on convos with strangers. Usually.

As a shy person it even amazes me how easily I can start up a conversation over the cucumbers and cabbages. Maybe that's the secret at big social gatherins - take along some veg. ;)

That's funny. I don't typically chat it up in the store but can.

I'm not usually all that chatty, but sometimes the mood strikes and I go with it. That's an interesting tip about corn. I'll have to remember that.

It really depends. I generally don't start conversations, but I don't mind having them.

I'm an "in and out of the store as fast as possible" kind of shopper. For some reason, people like to ask me for help at stores. Once, I had a little old lady ask me to reach something for her off the top shelf...I often get asked if I've seen a certain item the person is looking for...maybe I just look nice enough to ask? I hope that's it! Otherwise, I usually don't strike up the convo. Although, I'm bad about smiling and staring at cute babies...some mothers like it and others look at me like I'm crazy or I might steal the kid. It's just envy from wanting one of my own, geesh!

Sometimes I chat it up while shopping. Sometimes, the person seeking the chat is just too darned strange.

Not long ago, I had a nice conversation with an older woman who must have thought I was related to her in some fashion. She kindly touched my arm as we spoke and told me to come see her more often. I just might have, had I known where she lived :-)

LOL! You'd only be the Rose Hips lady if he was backing away and trying to avoid you.
My MIL will strike up a conversation in the middle of a school vocal concert with the people sitting in front or behind and laugh and talk to them as if that's what they're really there for. Not the mere fact that their senior is singing a song that they wrote for this occasion...

I am the chatty shopper. I usually shop alone therefore I either talk aloud to myself. I also answer myself. Chatty and Crazy! ;0)

I am not one to strike up a conversation. If someone makes eye contact with me I will smile and look away. If they try to talk to me I will be polite and respond but do not usually stick around very long..lol

I am the Please Don't Look At Me Or Talk To Me shopper...I keep my head down at all times (-:

Dude, the older I get the more chatty I get! When I am in a good mood, I will strike up a conversation with the most random people!

My rules of shopping: look ahead, don't cut anybody off, try not to be too loud when you curse out the people who leave their *^$%# carts in the middle of the aisle. No, I definitely don't talk to other shoppers.

Unless they're tall, cute, ringless and of the male variety. Then it's been known to happen from time to time.

I tend to wander aimlessly around the store, even if I know exactly what I need. Hey, there might be something there that I don't know I need until I see it. If I see a woman with a cute purse, I'll compliment it. If I see a cute guy working I may ask him if he knows where something is. These things lead to conversation. It is a great when I go back to some place over & over (like Starbucks:D) and they know me. I am definitely like the Rose Hips Lady! I'm really shy though...

It definitely depends on my mood and the mood of those around me. I at least try to smile at others. I feel like lately it seems nobody smiles at one another.

I'm not chatty at all when I shop. For me it's more - wham, bam, thank you mam! I just want to be done with it!

Keep your head down. Get in. Get out. Spend less than $75. Head down. Get in. Get out. Spend less than $75. That's my inner dialogue most days at the store. Although sometimes on a Sunday morning at 8am, I can be found leisurely scanning the aisles without a care in the world... knowing no one will be there to try to talk to me until at least 9 or 10. Wow. I sound so anti-social!

Lucy said...

Absolutely not!!! I rather die than talk to anyone at the store! OK maybe not DIE, that is a little strong but you get my point (lol)

Oh.. I'm a shopper of few words :-)

HAHAHAHA....I am not a chatty shopper but now saying that, I might be wrong. People have asked me in stores about certain clothes and we get in a long chat about designers, trends, etc. HAHAH...I am clearly chatty.

I'm glad you got some good tips. Yes, I'm a chatter shopper. I always get caught up in a conversation with an elderly person! My husband hates going shopping with me!

Deb said...

Nope, no conversations here. Get in, get my stuff and get the hell out :) Grocery shopping is not high on my "like" list.

I can go either way, but if I am going to be chatty I want to be the one to start the conversation. If I don't strike up the conversation it means I don't want to be bothered. I just wish I could have expressed that to the older lady that insisted following me all over one of my favorite stores last Friday to show me "how cuuuuute" this or that is, when I was already having a bad day and trying to get in to a better mood with some ALONE retail therapy.
