The Serial Hobbyist Strikes Again!!

Look what I made. It's it's it's a

DR. SEUSS BLANKET!!!!!!

not intentionally meant to be that rippled...*sighs*

I see all these cute mommies with their etsy shops and think, one of these days I'll hit on something that is actually saleable!!

Guess I just haven't hit it. Yet.

I've made pottery (still have a closet filled with pots), I've painted -- and I enjoy crocheting. It's the "counting of stitches" that I have a problem with. But why let a "little thing" like that stand in the way of my creativity???

Counting aside, I've given many of these baby blankets as gifts and have received several messages about how much their kids love them. The most recent:

"I have been meaning to tell you, _____ LOVES that blanket you made. It is his "blankie." Whenever I take him out of the crib he grabs on to it, or if it is left in, he reaches through the railings to get it. Its so cute!"

Just warms my heart when someone actually likes something I've made for them. And luckily babies are not as discriminating as adults when it comes to "perfection."

One of these days I just may find something worthy to list in an etsy shop. Just you wait!!! Hopefully I won't be setting up the account while my bed pan is being emptied at the nursing home ;-)

What's something you enjoy doing that doesn't always turn out too stellar?

I don't have a creative bone in my body :) I tried sewing a couple of times, couldn't even think about going out of the house in those outfits.... many other similar stories. Maybe someday I'll find something that clicks with me. :)

Crafts. I'm afraid I don't have the patience for them...I'd rather pay for the finished product than waste, oops I mean spend, time on doing one myself. I think the same thing about Etsy, but I doubt it will ever happen for me!

I can knit, I'm not very good because I don't like following patterns of counting either, but I've made some fun hats and some of my friends wear the hats I make them all the time. That makes me happy.

Beautiful! That reminds me, I need to go check on my six-toed socks, which I tossed in the wash in hopes of shrinking....

(BTW, I will send you Utz photos tomorrow. I am on the verge of passing out.)

Luckily, no one expects us guys to know how to sew, or nit, or quilt, or a lot of those crafts.

But, we are supposed to know other stuff. I used to work on my older bike - badly. My mechanic loved me to bits. Everytime I brought it in to the shop, he was going to make serious money.

If your crafts are enjoyed by whoever you give them to, that's way mor important than selling them for a profit

Well you know I love crafts too and trying to do more lately. I didn't know you did crochet - me too! Getting wool around here had become quite difficult as various sewing and craft shops shut, but a country shop selling wool opened not far from me here recently and I thought I should give it a go again. Mine tends to look similar to yours - wobbly edges! :)

I crocheted my best friend a baby blanket for her daughter. It was way too small, but the thought was there. I've been working on one for my niece, but the yarn got all tangled & I haven't worked on it in months.
They never come out perfect :P

Very cute blanket! I'm a serial hobbyist too. I love to scrapbook, but it often takes me forever just to finish one layout, and the results aren't always as fabulous I initially intended. I've never tried pottery, but I've always wanted to. This blanket is very cute, and it looks quite soft. :-)

Very cute! I love crocheting too but I fear you are much more talented than I am. I am very impressed by your blanket making skills. ;-)

And Poetry.

Sometimes I like to write poems. Mostly, they slip into a profanity laced thing akin to gansta rap quickly.
I'm not so sure my muse would appreciate me "F-ing" so much to her name ;-)

I really need to crochet more. I am like you...that pesky counting of stitches thing gets me every time. And usually that means I toss the project aside half-finished and funky looking. I have to stop doing that and just push on through!

My problem is I try too many things, and rarely finish anything :P I wish I could crochet though! Teach me, Obiwan! ;)

Look at you crocheting!!! A tear just came in my eye... love a fellow crafter!

I make candles but that's about the only creative thing I can do. Oh wait, I'm making egg shell chalk with the kids at school this week. Does that count? lol.

Oh easy. Knitting. I love knitting and I totally suck at it. I've been working on the same scarf for like two years. But it's so relaxing to just zone out and knit for awhile.

That blanket is WAY better than anything I could ever crochet!

i think it looks like an awesome blanket...

i like to draw/paint... and i'm not terrible.. but i'm certainly NOT something to write home about!

I hear you... I stick to photography, and I'm not even that good at it. Everything else is a wash...

I've broken every sewing machine I've ever owned. I used to want to make costumes for a shop, but I keep breaking the equipment.

Ah, me...I don't do anything "crafty," except for words. Do you think I could host a Scribbler's Corner at Etsy?

You are much craftier than I am!! That is for sure.
