Another "First"

The other day I was in the store that everybody loves to hate, when I had a brainstorm.

The belly dance recital is tomorrow!!! And we are wearing our cabaret costumes. What's the one thing that would make such an outfit complete??

FAKE EYELASHES!!!

I have never tried them before. As I was checking out, the cashier, who was one of those tiny older ladies with orange hair in a bouffant perm with an overload of makeup -- kinda like this but tinier and with orange hair

looked me in the eye when she came to the eyelashes on the checkout belt.

In my conservative day to day attire *yawn*, I do not look like someone who would be wearing fake eyelashes. But she was unaware of my little hobby :D

All you fashionistas, got any tips on how to apply them????

For the next show, I am looking into these babies ;-)

I tried some for the first time when I got married. I followed the directions and they went on with no problems at all and stayed on all day! Then I decided to try them again for fun another time and it was a disaster! I could not get them to go on at all. So, I don't have any good tips for you, I'm sorry. I'm anxious to see if anyone else does though!

I have only worn them for various costumes, but they're easy to put on. The first time I wore eyelashes, I didn't realize that you needed separate lash "glue" and I was so frustrated because they wouldn't stay on!

I usually put a dot of glue on my finger and then I use the pointy end of a toothpick to put a fine line of the glue onto the lashes. You don't want too much glue, but I've never figured out a good way to get just a small amount on there other than the toothpick trick. I've heard you can kind of drag your lashes through the dot of glue on your finger, but I can't picture that working as well. Anyway, once you have adhesive on the end of the lashes, position it as close as you can to the base of your real lashes, starting with the outside corner of your eye and working inward. Then, once they're in position, lightly press on them all across the strip to get a strong stick. It will feel like you have a 20 pound weight on your eyelid, and blinking with the false lashes will feel really weird and unnatural for a few minutes. At least, that's been my experience.

Some people will then use an eyelash curler and mascara - even on the false eyelashes. I kind of think that's overkill, but whatever works for you, babe.

If all else fails, there are some clips on YouTube showing how to apply lashes. Good luck!

I have worn them for a couple of Halloweens and they are easy to apply as long as you have eyelash glue. :)

GOOD LUCK in your recital! Make sure someone takes pics of your fabulous self!

I have tried them once, and I looks ridiculous! And I couldn't get them close enough to my lash line.

I had to wear fake eyelashes for show choir (don't judge me) and while I didn't like how they felt, I loved how they looked!

Can't help you on how to apply them, but can't wait to see pictures of them on!

Never tried them, but I have so many eye issues I won't even wear mascara anymore (and I miss it ::sniff sniff::) for fear of poking myself in the eye. But I definitely want to see pictures when you have them on!

I wore them one time and they worried the snot out of me. Good Luck!

I picture this as a 2-person job. One to hold me down and periodically pour alcohol in my mouth and the other to put those puppies on my eyes. Good luck!!

Nikol's got all the advice I could give. They do feel weird for a little while but they work well to give the eyes more pzazz. ...Providing you don't buy ones that are too thick. That second photo reminds me so much of a former Chancellor of the Exchequer over here - Denis Healey:

Love the look of them, but I personally just have such a hard time getting used to the feeling of having things glued to my eyelids. Have a great show!
