Which Reminds Me

of the day back in 1985 that I took a train into the city and waited in a line that snaked around outside Tower Records in NYC for 5 hours waiting to get my shirt autographed by British singer Paul Young.
so hot and smoldering....(just thinking out loud)

♪ ♫ Every time you go a-way...You take a piece of me. With You and Come Back and Stay For Good This Time....♪ ♫

Sound familiar?? nah? I didn't think so. WTH? Can't I ever get an autograph that is worth the paper (or t-shirt) it's written on? I ended up tossing the shirt a few years ago. As you can see - he is not quite the hunk he was back then.

(Like I should talk. Although 1985 was the year of my crew cut - so maybe I do look a little better today!)

Anyhoo, that's 7 hours of my life I won't be getting back. And the scary part was that when the doors opened there was a stampede. Someone towards the end of the line - way around the corner, started pushing and I was practically crushed when the doors opened. Incredibly scary. Imagine. Had I been crushed, this here blog may never have existed!! ;-)

Whose autograph have you got in your possession that makes absolutely no sense in hindsight?

To my British readers: if he is still famous over there and my t-shirt is really worth something, had I kept it, please DO NOT let me know, as that would be just my luck...

P.S. I was going to do a DWTS critique, but I realized that there are many other bloggers covering the show - and better. I'll stick to my forte: lame posts about autographs. Although let me just say, poor Ashley and Tony - what did they do to deserve their partners?? And who peed in Len's bowl of Cheerios?

P.P.S. Down to 97 emails in the blog in-box (from the 13,000 I was working on over a month ago at the time of my jury duty! woot!)

Have you ever heard of Rulon Gardner? He was the Olympic Gold Medalist wrestler, years ago. He dated my friend. I really, really wish I could blog about all that craziness. I got an autograph on his Got Milk ad, where he's wearing his singlet. It's awesome.

Actually I've kind of posted a few times related to this. I've never really asked people for autographs and I've been around a lot of famous people. When I was a teenager I got Jackie Coogan and Ted Cassidy's autograph (Uncle Fester and Lurch from TV's Addams Family) and they both seemed pretty annoyed with me.

Hehe...Paul Young eh? I think he runs a restaurant now so you can relax about that lost autograph.

The longest thing I queued for was 8 hours to see Tutankhamun on exhibit in London in '72 (that has nothing to do with getting his autograph of course)! ;)

In the stakes of the pointless autograph, I seem to have collected a whole bunch of friends' signatures from primary school. What was all *that* about? Unless of course that was my clever forward planning... should any of them ever hit the big time!

that picture of Paul Young reminds me of Johnny Depp back during the 21 Jump Street days, just a little bit. Seeing his present picture, I think that shows just how much plastic surgery other aging stars must be getting!

I haven't met anyone famous :-( no autographs or pictures...sigh.

I watched DWTS, but I kinda got bored and spaced out during some of it.

Now why did you see fit to upset me this morning with a where-is-he-now photo of hotsy-totsy Paul Young? Sigh.

Who's next - Rick Astley?

No!!!

I can honestly say that I have never gotten anyone's autograph. However, if I were to run across Viggo Mortensen, I might get his. Maybe...

Oh, and I had a crew cut in 1985 too! Must have been the thing to do...

I have a couple autographs in books from the authors. That's about it, though.

Is it bad that I have no idea what DWTS is? Down With the Sickness? Ohh... wait I know, Dancing With the Stars! Right...

That song is going to be stuck in my head all day today!

The only famous person I have ever met was Donny Osmond. And since I am not my mom's age, I don't really care about him.

I have a few autographed books by renowned chefs, but that's it..

I have an autograph of the lead singer of a local band, it is totally worthless but it has sentimental value and hard to explain. Way to go on your INBOX!!!!

God I don't have anyone's autograph. I once met the Righteous Brothers...I am sure my mom probably has their autograph...actually come to think of it my mom is the autograph whore of the family! Her top spot would have to be Ronald Reagan’s she even has a picture to go with it where she is shaking his hand so hard she is squeezing his liver spots. ;)

Ummm. I can not believe that is the SAME person. I remember that song and how cute he was back in the day. Oh boy.

I don't recall ever collecting any autographs. Maybe I had a boring life and/or childhood... Or maybe it's the fact I have no patience

One of the Gladiators came to my school and signed autographs - I don't know what happened to that though! It never even made sense at the time...

WOW 1985 that was a few years ago.
He doesn't look as good...your right.
I have Keith Sweat's drummers autograph. Don't even know his name. They came to my town and he got sick and my brother picked him up in ambulance. Told him I loved Keith Sweat and he gave me an autograph...and 2 tickets to the show. It was GOOD!

How 'bout Peter Brady aka Christopher Knight.

Although... I still love Peter Brady. So that one still makes perfectly good sense to me and was worth chasing him down in the airport!

Good job on the emails!

I actually friended a guy today on FB that I would have NEVER recognized on the street, and I used to babysit his kids! It was a shocker. He wasn't famous or anything, I was just so surprised at how badly he had aged.

I have the autographs of some lesser know members of Cinderalla. They were in a record store before their concert. I had them sign the Night Ranger singel "Sister Christian" and they were very offended. I got drunk before the concert and passed out before the main act - Bon Jovi - came onstage.

Laura said...

Ummm I don't know who that is and yes he is not looking so hot these days! Thank the good Lord you weren't hurt in the door pushing chaos that crazy night, can you imagine? Now Carma Sez? Horrible!

Amanda said...

I have never heard of that guy. But can I just take a moment and share? My first ever concert was..

Milli Vanilli.

Yeah.

Im cool.

Blessings!

I've only got one autograph and that's from Oprah. She was in the park years ago when I was in high school and we were on a field trip. I thought at the time it was like meeting a God. I have no idea where it is today.

Janna Bee said...

Um, No autographs, but I saw New Kids on the Block not once or twice but 3 times! I also saw Milli Vanilli in concert. Yep.

So now he is Paul not-so-Young. lol

1985 seems like so long ago. I graduated in 84

Ummmm, Winnie the Pooh? No, actually. That's a good one!

Oh, wow - I used to loooove that Paul Young song!

I had some random country music star's autograph on a drumstick they threw my way during the concert. I have no idea who they were or if they are still around...I threw the drumstick away long ago.
I was never big on autographs. I was big on trying to sneak backstage and hang out with the band. It worked a few times.

Fifi Flowers said...

WOW... I would say he has NOT aged well... remember seeing him in concert years ago... he was HOT!
