I'm Bummed.

Remind me not to do anything of importance before 10:00 AM. Make it 11:00 AM on weekends. This morning I did something that I has left me smacking myself upside the head.

I sat down at the computer - looked over and saw my camera and decided to delete some photos. The photos on the camera had not been moved to the hard drive since I procrastinate like crazy on that type of thing. I know you see what's coming. Let's just say there were 167 photos at 7:15 this morning. At this time, there are NONE.

You see, with my Sony Cybershot, it is extremely easy to delete all photos if acting quickly. Sure there is a "confirm" - but when trying to exit, which I did as soon as I realized what might happen, I clicked "OK" thinking I was exiting, when I was really confirming the deletion of all the photos!!!! I'm now left with a completely blank photo card :-(

One of these days, I swear I'm going to go all "neo-Luddite" like Lily Allen....I'm already halfway there: No cable TV, a cell phone that is rarely in use, no i-POD, but the one thing I can't live without is my computer and- up until this point my camera.

I dare not tell VC- as he gets pretty sentimental over photos, and among the ones I deleted were the photos of him and me posing with the fancy cake he and MB got me for my birthday, plus several of his recent juggling gigs, and probably lots of other stuff that I will have a panic attack over later.

In a sense, it has freed up a lot of time, as I had planned to work on uploading the photos this weekend. I'm getting nostalgic for the days of 35MM film. Back when the livin' was easy....Perhaps I should take the bull by the horns and delete the 5,800 emails still remaining in my inbox, which are of a lot less value than those photos were.

Ever pull a bone-headed move like this????

P.S. I'll admit a factor that may have led to my lack of concentration was the distracting headline about Breast Milk Cheese!!!

Update: I called Ritz Camera and they can recover them for $40 -- now I must contemplate: birthday photo/juggling photos vs. $40 to spend on overpriced hair products ;-)

thats a horrible feeling when you hit that button & realize what you did.... cue the slow motion move of "NNNNOOOOOOOOOOO"

so as you can tell, yes, I've done the same thing

Girl, get your camera with the card still in in to a camera shop PRONTO!!! There is a good chance they can recover some, if not all, of your photos! Ritz Camera or any dedicated camera shop should be able to help. It is possible maybe even the Geek Squad can.

I hope they can help you!!! I will be crossing my fingers, toes, eyes and anything else, hoping for the best!!!

That is my biggest fear! I am sure I have done it and the PSTD has left a big black hole in my memory right now for me to tell you about it to make you feel better...On the bright side one day you'll have a black hole in your brain about this moment too {oh except you went and wrote a little post about it!}. It happens! It could be worse! Besides another bright side... you can now go buy another cake so you can reenact the moment... Mmmmm cake!!! :D

Oh my yes, I have far too flighty fingers and I delete away when I shouldn't. Sorry! I hope there's a back up some camera geek can assist you with........

Oh no! I wish there was something I could say to make this better...

And please delete those emails. Trust me, you don't need them!

Oh no! I know exactly how you feel. You just want to turn the clock back so you can stop yourself.

Kristen is right, a reputable camera shop may be able to help but there is also software available on the internet that might help. *Don't take any more photos with that camera in the meantime* as I think any new shots may well overwrite what you've just deleted. Good luck.

I did that once after a shoot and lost half of the shots I had taken that day. The customer was less than pleased. Lessons learned. :(

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
I've totally done this and I feel your pain. :( It hurts just to think about it.

I have yet to do that with my camera, but I can see how it could happen. So sorry you lost all your pictures. Now, stay away from breast milk cheese...

I hate when I do something like that. My day has been a total suck fest. I keep hoping for a Do-Over.

Oh, yes, I have done things like this before, it does feel awful but I have to admit I delete emails all the time, I don't keep my emails, that is a lot of emails.

My hubby likes to reinstall windows occasionally and we didn't realize that 8 months of photos did not get moved when he reformatted the drive! He was able to use a recovery program to get some of them off of the camera (luckily most of the ones we really love are on my blog or fb). Are you sure a recovery program doesn't come with your camera?

I did the exact same thing yesterday...only there was 27,your worse off then me! My inbox looks ok...57.

Jugging gig? Forget the hair! :D

I didn't know they would be recoverable at all! I'd so pay for it because I'm totally a sentimental fool!

That is such a bummer. Totally been there. And the breast milk cheese...Icksville.

Yeah, I had a similar experience like that and I really felt bad about it because some of the pictures that were deleted were really memorable and special. The good news on your end is that you can still recover it. I would go for the $40 dollar recovery fee.

These are special investment that will make you smile 10-40 years from now.

oh no thats hte worst!
but they can actually get pictures you have deleted off a memory card?? how weird...who knew?!

Unknown Mami said...

Yes, I have pulled boneheaded maneuvers like that. Once I did it on someone else's camera, which was even worse because I had to tell them about it.

Kaylen said...

Pay the $40!!! In ten years, you're going to all be sitting around wondering about a certain event (or a certain cake) and you will need those photos to prove you are right. Trust me on this---photos are EVIDENCE.
Oh, and I guess they have sentimental value or whatever too---but still, EVIDENCE to prove you are right!!!

Good luck!! Hope tomorrow goes better.

I spent half of my day yesterday trying to get my computer back from Comcast...4 phone calls, boot and reboot, etc.... Once all was running, I got a phone call saying I hadn't paid my bill!(we had!)That little girl is probably still in the fetal position under her desk....

Oh that is aweful, I could cry for you! Yes this has indeed happened to me and doesn't feel like you have just deleted a piece of your soul! I hope that you start feeling better soon!

I'm guilty of doing that too. I didn't know you could recover them though. Good tip as I'm sure I'll do it again.

Totally something I would do. No actually... it's totally something I HAVE DONE! Bummer... sorry... but gotta go check out your Breast Milk Cheese Link!(?)!!!!

I have done this. It sucks. I was at a sales conference and had taken a bunch of pictures of our booth, and then my sales manager wanted me to get some shots of customers in the booth, but one of the customers freaked out about having her picture taken (she was barely in the shot) and said that I had to delete the photo immediately. I did. Unfortunately, I also deleted every single other picture, and didn't realize until later that I didn't have a single picture of the booth.

AnnQ said...

I'm sorry about your pictures!

OMG, I've DEFINITELY done stuff like that! And it's usually when I'm tired or distracted.

C.G. the Foodie said...

I have definitely been there before. Hope they got recovered!

debi9kids said...

OH! I would TOTALLY pay the $40! I am a maniac about losing photos and yes, i have done it as well. UGH! (I actually lost almost ALL of the photos of my twins from month 4-6 of their lives by a stupid error. UGH)

What the...breast milk cheese????? NO! NO! NO!
