Don't Be Messin' with My CUB!!

This blog is about so much more than my bad posture-- it's also about my family, including my son VC.

If you are a regular follower of this fine blog, you are familiar with VC and all of his many talents.

Well, we received word yesterday that he won a prestigious PTA award and his project is now advancing to the "Nationals." I, being the doting mom, had tears in my eyes when we received the news. VC was pleasantly surprised.

The lady from the PTA wanted to show his project (a video) on the morning announcements which are televised to all the classrooms at the school.

I've written before about the "tough crowd" at the public school he attends. Tough as in overindulged bullies. VC's face became crestfallen at the thought of his video being aired to all the students at the school.

Why? Because when he accepted the County award a few months back, he evidently "smiled wrong," and was the subject of ridicule from several students afterward. WTH????? I did not realize it was now permissible to bully kids for "smiling wrong."

The video will air tomorrow. I'll post here if there are any repercussions from the derelicts.

What's a good kid with more talent in his pinky (literally) than these kids have in their entire bodies have to do to CATCH A BREAK??????

Can you tell this pisses me off just a teeny tiny little bit?

That's really sad that the other kids are like that. I hate bullys. THe damage it does to these kids. I hope that when the video airs that he feels very proud and doesn't listen to what the smaller peanut gallery of bullies has to say.

that sucks but i totally understand hope his video showing is a success and if people start being mean tell him they're just haters and haters make people famous and one day he will be super famous! :)

oh mama....i'm hoping for their sake that they don't say anything!! i'm gonna be hearing about a mom wreaking havoc on the evening news :)

but CONGRATS to vc!! that's awesome for you!! those little effers can suck it! they're just jealous because your son is ADORABLE and talented! congrats!!

Hmm, you look dangerous, they better behave well ;)

What wonderful news and it's also great news that his work is being recognised and shared with everyone, even if VC isn't feeling that at the moment.

If you look into the stories behind many of the entertainers we love you will find that plenty of them had a tough time at school. Creative and talented people stand out from the crowd and unfortunately your average idiot can't stand that and their only retaliation is to become mean and spiteful.

I can guess how you feel because I'm just as protective of those I love. Hey, show me where they are...I'll deal with them!

That stinks.

Kids that age are awful. Awful. If he smiles right this time they'll find something else. Because they're awful. The good news is in a few years it will all be behind them and his mad skillz will take him further than their mean awfulness will take them.

Hang in there, mama bear - sometimes I think these years are as tough for us as they are for them...

What is wrong with kids? Geez! They should be celebrating each other's accomplishments, not picking people apart!

I'm so sorry! I'll stand next to you and help you take 'em out, if need be.

ok, that just shows how LAME these bullies are!!! they have nothing else to pick on him for than a smile???? Those kids are so lucky I'm not a teacher there....I would put them in their place. I cannot stand or tolerate bullying and I wish more teachers paid attention and got involved. grrr.

anyway, congrats to VC!!!!!!!!

Let me know if I need to come bust some knee caps for ya, Carma. I'm ready and more than willing. Those little bullies better leave VC alone!

(BTW, tell him congrats!)

VC totally rocks my world for being such a great kid and still being himself no matter what other people say or do.

He is totally going to be that kid who was picked on and then goes on to great and awesome things, and then comes home for the high school reunion to find that everyone who picked on him is still living with their parents and working at the local Dairy Queen.

Rock on VC!!!!! I am so happy for him, and you!!!

As for those little f***ers that are bullying him....they are so going nowhere in life and they know it. They are little nothings and they know VC is something and they have to knock him to make their feeble little lives seem better.

And seriously what is wrong with the school staff and more importantly these little monsters parents?!?! They should be punished!!!

Tell VC to keep his held high!!! He is clearly going places and is going to have a GREAT life while those little worms will probably end up in jail or something!!!

I know it has to be hard as a Mom to see your child go through this, but take comfort in the fact that you raised such an amazing son that will continue to make you proud!!!

BIG {{{{HUGS}}}}} :-)

How do you smile wrong?
It's probably just because they're jealous that he has talent and works hard to achieve things in life.

Kids are mean. We've had similar situations. as much as we try to rationalize why they behave this way, most of all we just want to protect and defend our kids.

Bullies suck.

So happy for VC! Congrats to him, and to you also Momma!

Congrats VC on your award! Agh mama how are you dealing with the bullies, it would wreck me I think. VC is such and amazing kid how could anyone not love him!

Why do teenagers have to such little shizits?

buffalodick said...

Kids generally are pack animals and barbarians to boot.. I remember holding back on talents I had, because I wanted to fit in... Later in life, this will be something he will be proud of and the idiots will be probably be working for him!

That is so sad! God kids can be mean!

Public schools suck. My kids both went to a jr high that had the largest drug bust in the county(AT THE JR HIGH) 2 teachers arrested for child molesting and child porn and a stabbing. SO I hear YA!
Do what you can to help his self esteem and make sure you point out people like Bill Gates.

Just saw you on Peg's blog. You've got a juggler? (I've got one, too... they're a special breed. Does yours "diabolo?" If not - have him look it up. COOLEST THING I've ever seen, and we have the marks on the ceiling to prove it!)

And let's hear it for parents who protect their cubs. It's what we're here for. And our kids learn so much from our sticking by them.

Kids are mean and horrible. My son had a bully issue for a couple years and it still haunts him sometimes. It's disgusting how some kids are raised...
I hope it goes well!

I'm so sorry about those evil devil kids!

CONGRATS:))

Just enjoy the success!!!

Oh dear. I will be praying my heart out for VC. I could not STAND it if they bullied him for this achievement. Dang I am all worked up!

Will be checking back for updates.

Blessings!

I think you are awesome for being ready to pounce! I am sure he knows it too. That in itself will give him a little boost.

Hope he enjoys his accolades.

Well if your lovely scathing glare in this photo is any indication of VC smiling wrong then it must be a very handsome picture of him. Those other kids are clearly silly!

I hate bullies...but more so bully parents because that's where those kids get that crap.

I think you're on to something. VC has more talent then they could ever wish for and they can't handle their jealousy.

You go VC...Congratulations!

Some kids are jerks but BRAVO to VC. Love it Carma!

Hopefully, VC will get over those bullies pretty quick, but he's at that age where that stuff matters.
He is a fantastic juggler. I grew up in a family of jugglers. We did team juggling and we were good. But on an individual level I never was ambitious to achieve what your son has done. He needs to hang in there -- I'm sure he's got a good future waiting ahead.
Sometimes I blog about my experience as a juggler.

Next year, my daughter has the choice of taking her classes on the college campus instead of at her actual high school, and this is one of the reasons she wants to do it. She'll be leaving all her friends a year early, not spending her SENIOR year at her school, because she's so tired of that high school mentality. And I don't blame her. I just hope your son realizes that those kids don't matter, and he's very talented.

It's almost embarrassing because we don't really juggle anymore. The only thing on youtube is an impromptu goof session with my sister this past Christmas where neither of us has practiced. My mother no longer juggles and my father has passed away. I wish we had film of our act, but there is little record available. But for the sad proof that we once juggled here is our youtube link:

Punks can be so mean especially when they are jealous! I hope all goes well for your son. Congrats to him! You all should be very, very proud!

Kids are horrible! He should be getting praised. After all, he's flippin' amazing!

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

High school is such a tough time, it seems even more rough these days. Just sucks. I hope he can continue to be proud, hold him head up and brush off what other might say.

And congrats to him and you (you should be one proud Momma)!

PS - you scare the crap out of me ~

He's going to leave all those morons in the dust. They'll all be saying "I knew him when..."

mindy m. said...

I noticed my middle-schooler was forgetting his manners, when I asked him about it he said, "Mom, if you say 'thank you" in school the kids make fun of you for it"

Man, I dont even know how to reply to that...the only way to get through it, it seems, is to be mean-spirited, immoral and egotistical...and I refuse to let my guy sink that low just to get through.

Being "good" is hard these days.

It's tough to be a kid. I read the outcome of the situation and I guess he won't have to face the possible ridicule, but it sucks that his accomplishment can not be shared and celebrated the way it should be.
