You Don't Say??

ABC News recently came out with results of a new study: "Scientific evidence shows we all have a "phone voice" that's different than the voice we use in our regular, face-to-face conversations!"

Wow! It took a study to figure this out! MB and I have been ribbing each other for years over my high pitched friendly phone voice and his signature lighthearted chuckle that indicates he is on the phone with one of his relatives.

Do you have a phone voice that is the butt of jokes? Do share!

P.S. Congrats to the winner of the Crazy Dog T-Shirt giveaway: bayctygrl (Jennifer)! Thanks to all who entered :-)

I immedietly (omg I can't spell) started giggling after the first sentence. I agree we have diff phone voices and not only that but diff. voices for diff people. I could always tell which friend my mom was talking to. My daughter makes comments to me because of my phone voice. So funny!

I used to have a phone voice but after 14 months of unemployment it went away. My cousin just called me yesterday and at first I thought it was an older white woman asking for me and then when I asked who was calling, she said, "it's Laurie" apparently exasperated. I asked her if she knew that she had a phone voice.

What does an older white woman sound like? You may ask. Well there is a tone pitch and cadence within certain cultures/ethnicities that makes it obvious who is on the other end of the phone. There are obvious stereotypical cadences and regional accents like Asian/East Indian or southern Black people. Yaw'll know exactly what I mean.

She chuckled and shared that she knew she had one. And, that whenever anyone visited her office after a phone conversation, they'd always take a double look at her.

Funny that! Hun?

haha, I make fun of my husband when I call him at work. His voice is so deep and serious sounding. He used to tease me too at how I would sound so professional when I answered the phone at work.

I swear my phone voice is about 5 octaves higher and sweeter than my regular voice, unless I'm talking to a telemarketer, than it's about 5 octaves bitchier. :)

I don't think I have a different voice, but one of my daughter's does. We tease her about it.

SOOOOO true, and yeah, really, a study to figure that out!? I worked in the same cube as another girl at my last job and we would sit and complain and yell about our annoying customers and then the phone would ring and we would put on our super sweet girly voices. We were the ONLY girls in the company and we got teased about it ALL the time from the guys. Whatever. :)

I too have a phone voice and it varies depending on who I am talking to. My son and I were just discussing this the other day. Actually, he was making fun of me about it.

I definitely have a work voice and at least three other voices I use with different people. Why do we do that?

Leland's voice he uses when he talks to his brother is awesome. He somehow turns all hillbilly, says f*cken all the time, I may even hear a y'all come out of his mouth. I once mentioned the voice to him and he refuses to believe he does that.

oh i so TOTALLY agree with this..

.. in fact sometimes, my husband does NOT even sound like my husband on the phone!

I have read that animals can distinguish our different voices too, and they don't like it. I know I have a different voice when I'm talking about something serious, versus joking around etc, whether I'm on the phone or not.

I am sure I have a phone voice but no one has ever mentioned it? Hmm.Maybe it isn't that far off from my everyday lovely voice (lol)

LOL I never really thought about it before, but that's sooo true! I know I sound overly sweet and friendly on the phone. My husband sounds all tough and manly when he answers the phone at work or is standing with his guy friends. Too funny!

Thanks for stopping by my blog by the way!

My phone voice is so sexy that my own brother didn't know who I was and I started pretending I was some chick he'd met the previous weekend and he totally fell for that. I stopped before it got too gross.

Dang, I wanted to win!

I use the phone so much at my job I had to get a phone voice. I also have to smile while I talk- it helps me not to cry while at work... hahaha... Kind of kidding?
