Now Even Cheerleaders are "Off Limits"

I had to chuckle the other day when I saw a couple of posts in a forum, pertaining to cheerleaders. Apparently even cheerleaders are now on the "protected" PC list.

The topic of bloggers and popularity came up. Someone said (and I paraphrase) that she wondered if the popular bloggers are like high school cheerleaders, referring to said cheerleaders as basically full of fluff without substance.

It didn't take long for another member to find offense with her comment, saying that she considered it to be a huge insult to cheerleaders and that as a former school cheerleading coach, she couldn't let the comment slide without being rebuffed.

Well, I'll be!! Everyone is sooooooo sensitive these days that you can barely write a blog post without offending someone. Everyone needs to take a step back and relax!! Or soon they'll be nothing to write about!

im sure as long we are PC then we can write about anything we like, though i have varied opinions on PC, none of them very nice. I think everyone needs to cash in their reality checks. the sooner the better

Oh good grief! If we can't make fun of cheerleaders who can we make fun of?!? lolol

I will admit that sometimes while blogging I find my inner censor coming on and I worry if something I post will offend someone, like if I swear or something. Then I quickly get over it...because it is MY blog! And I swear "in real life!" Doesn't make me a bad person!!!

Oh, people are ALWAYS going to be offended... always!!!

Hey, I have a blog - does that mean I get pom poms soon? :)

I thought cheerleaders were the only ones you could make fun of.

I was a cheerleader in high school and I make fun of myself about it all the time!

I think people are getting to be way too sensitive. Aren't we allowed to have opinions anymore?

Fine line between being P and censorship. People just need to get over themselves!

I am so sick of all the PC stuff! People who get all offended take themselves far to seriously. People make blonde jokes all the time. I could get super po'd about it or laugh along. Laughing is more fun, so I go with that.

And thanks for stopping by my blog :)

Oh freak. If people don't like something that's written then go to a different blog! No one's forcing you to read it! I was a high school chearleader and I think it's funny! Seriously, who cares!?

Ohhh...dont get me started! There is only one 'popular' blog I like (pioneer woman) that I think is truly original, well written, and an enjoyable read.

EVERYTHING else is overrated!!! How many of us know a great blogger who is original and funny and great at *something, but only has 10 followers??

OK. You got me. I am just talking about myself. And I lied a little. I think I only have 3 followers.

As far as the whole cheerleader bit is concerend, I am the FIRST to jump on totally inappropriate things to get offended at, and even I was not offended at that.

(I might owe more then 2 cents for that ramble fest)

God bless-
Amanda

I tell ya, trying to be PC the whole freakin' day can be wearing on a person, especially a high school teacher like moi! I do have cheerleaders on my staff, but we keep the teasing to a minimum...

This gets to the root of one of my problems with blogging. I have so much to say, but do hold back for fear of hurting someone's feelings. You are right. I need to pick up my pom-poms, put on my big-girl bloomers and get over it. If someone doesn't like it- they don't have to come back.

Bah Humbug, Cheerleaders, Cheeseburgers one tastes good on a bun and the one other fights a mean vampire but both need the addition of a good cheese to break the fever.

When you cite things like this, you have to put links to the forum, so we can call go there and yell at them.

Just don't trash talk my Cheese Balls and you'll be okay in my book.

That's just crazy...
It is funny though as sometimes I type something, go back, change it, re-type it...all because I am wondering if It could come across the wrong way!!!
Hey, I think you should be able to say what you feel and if someone doesn't like it, they don't have to read it!!!
This coming from a former cheerleader myself....(Im the first in line to make fun of it!!!)
Woo-Hoo...LOL
I have an award for you my blogging friend....

I want to say something rude about cheerleaders just to spite the PC police but I can't think of anything right now. ;o)

First, why are people whinig about blogging? Really, who does it bother? It is like television, you don't like a blog then don't read it, just like a show, you don't like it then, you don't watch it.

Now, the PC stuff. Oh, you can't please everyone and this touchy feely world that is coming about is happening in our schools. YOu can't say boo to a kid without being ripped for damaging self esteem and you can't teach anything without spinning it because you may make a group of people look look 'bad'.

Really, is the cheerleading coach going to argue that cheerleading is a serious sport or art. C'mon, cheerleaders are meant to 'cheer' the team on, which is what the author meant bloggers do to each other and who cares, that is what we do!

GO CARMA GO, GO CARMA GO!!

Blue State Cowgirl said...

Yeah, what Lucy said. Cheerleading is hardly a serious sport.

Rhythmic gymnastics on the other hand...

I don't know what it is lately, but it seems that someone went around handing out virtual badges to the cyberspace police!

Seriously! What is is with some people? I've heard enough. Take your negativity, turn off the computer, and go away already!
