Blogging for Bad

Many of you may already be familiar with the story of the Little April Rose blog. I only first heard about it last week and see that it has now made the mainstream press with an article on ABCNews...

Here's the condensed version in case you haven't seen the story. A blogger named "B" made a blog www.littleoneapril.blogspot.com (posts have since been removed) about carrying a terminally ill child to term. It was an elaborate blog with long well written posts that elicited the sympathies of thousands. Last week the baby was due to be born and when readers saw the photo of the newborn, questions were raised, namely, why did the newborn resemble a doll? Ends up, because it WAS a doll. The whole story was a hoax. A P.O. Box was listed on the site where people could donate money and send gifts and some of her dedicated readers did just that, only to find out it was a complete ruse.

At left is the doll and at right is the blogger, whose real name is Becca Beushausen.

If you are interested in learning more about the story, here's the link.

The irony is that she was supposedly an excellent writer and probably could have made some honest money blogging.

Let me see, that now makes it two "Attention Seekers" in a row on my blog! I may need to make this a regular feature...

I just heard about this. I couldn't believe someone is so desperate for attention to make up a story like that. I think psychiatric help is needed.

I hadn't heard about this till now. I guess I should be shocked, surprised, whatever, but sadly I am learning there are so many sick people in this world that not much shocks me anymore. I hope this woman gets the psychiatric help she so desperately needs, because she is definitely sick. I don't feel any sympathy for her whatsoever.

I had no clue! How very sad, very, very sad.

Guess we need to be careful when sending money!

I do have a question, do you ever send money? I have admit I don't. I only give to legitimate charities. Gotta get my tax write off (lol)

wow, I had not heard about this, but I don't watch the news regularly.

The Internet has been a marvelous engine for charities and a hoax like this hurts people who might really need donations.

I nominate Carma as Internet Cop. Or maybe Internet Czar since Czar nomination seems to be the rage in Washington these days.

Should Carma pack heat or just going around pulling plugs and erasing hard drives?

All of this dramam makes my belly hurt. This is high school all over again. One of the popular girls gets knocked up and I am sitting in the lunch room at the geeky table saying, "You mean she had sex? With a boy?!?!?!"

Alls I am saying is, I am SOOOO far out of the loop on this one I just can't seem to summon up the compassion to care.

Sorry people lost money. So did I when I bought flowers at Menards for $12 and then found out they went on sale the next day for $6.

Its life. People are poops and people are saps and I am usually all of the above.

God bless!

I just heard of this last week too. It is a very, very sad thing. So many people were involved and emotionally connected with it all.

Smoe people are just out there, could explain why I am so skeptical sometimes.

I heard about this this week too. Very sad when people seek attention like this and deceive people.

oh god that is horrible! This is the first time I'm hearing about this and as a mother of a 10 week preemie, I am appalled and offended by her actions. I hope she gets the maximum penalty for fraud.

These hoaxes upset me. Gives the rest of us Honest Abes a bad name, don't you think? BTW, trying to celebrate Sx3 and a college graduation today at the same time. We'd sure love it if you came by!

Oh WOW...what a shame! This person is obviously in need of some serious help...just really sad!

I feel bad for the people who chose to believe her and donate gifts and/or money....

To play with people's feelings, and upon their sympathies in such a way is callous and heartless, in my opinion...

How awful. And I think those doll-babies are just really creepy... IMHO, of course...

Love to you honest, open, marvellous Carma! x

That's awful. I have a friend that really did carry a baby to term whom they knew would not survive outside the womb. It's very sad that someone would make up something like that.

I hadn't heard about this...but um, wtf-she couldn't just google baby pictures and use one of those?? She doesn't have any family members with babies? She couldn't walk into any hospital and take a photo from the baby viewing area??? Stupid stupid stupid and a waste of everyones time and energy.

(seriously--baby photos are easy to find!)

Wow, I totally missed this. What a hateful thing to do that will continue to harden us and make us more cynical and fearful of others.
