Belly Button Bling - Revealed!

***Warning: If you are squeamish about things piercing-related, this is NOT the post for you***

OK, so I am now ready for the big unveiling of my new navel piercing. First, here's how it went. I got up that morning having no plans other than to attend a local festival with the boys where my belly dancing group (the advanced class) would be performing.

After the performance we walked down the block and saw a sign out front a newly relocated tattoo/piercing shop. It looked so welcoming, we decided to take a peek.

MB, knowing I had wanted to pierce my belly button for years (he had even tried to pierce it once - long story), suggested we inquire about pricing, etc. After being reassured of their sanitation standards, I decided to go for it!!

Those who know me well, know I like to think things over, rethink- and then think some more. So a hasty decision like this was well out of character for me- & sooo darn fun!!

The technician, Gabe, said it would feel like someone was pinching my skin (gross understatement as you can tell from my grimace). I've gotta say, though, that Gabe, who could pass for Frank Zappa's twin brother, had more bedside manner than most physicians I've visited over the years.

Here I am trying to "play it cool." LOL

I felt much better after it was over

...and how it looks today:

A few things I didn't realize beforehand:

(1) That the piercing can take 6 months to a year to heal!! over which time you need to wash it twice a day with antibacterial soap and avoid touching it.

(2) You have to be uber careful to avoid infection. As Perez would say, "This is serious shizz!"

(3) That you cannot go in a pool or to the beach for a month afterward, which is why it wasn't the best idea to do it the week before the pool opens!

All things to keep in mind should you decide to get some belly bling...

Please don't forget to enter my giveway! "Be like me. Be frizz free" LOL :D

Omg Carma it looks GREAT!! you can change it when its healed too :D I think you are very brave for getting it. I have my nose done and it hurt more than anything else. It looks fantastic, go you girl!! you have more guts than me!

That just looks painful...

(But good for you for being so brave and going for it!)

I got my belly bling about 4 years ago. I was expecting it to hurt more than it did. I have gotten it caught a couple times, once on a belt buckle, hurt like heck so now I am super cautious. Yours looks great!

Have a great holiday weekend!!

I does look good! You are far braver than me girl!

ARRRRRG! Please tell me the next milestone isn't a tattoo. At least make it henna or rub on.

I got one in college and the memory of it hurting has faded. Debbie Downer alert though. The holes looked really funky after I had the dude. But they normalized after a few months. Rock on with your bad self!

You are so cool and badass!

I think hasty decisions are the best whole life has been a series of hasty decisions and I think they are so much fun. There really is nothing better than throwing caution to the wind.

I hope you like having it and am so glad you took the plunge!

And if you want to get a tattoo, that would be totally awesome as well!

Ouch! I passed out and threw up when I got my ears pierced. Although that was 1975. Regardless, I don't think I'll be getting my belly button pierced. Yours looks good though!

Oh, my gosh, I think it is great that you went for it!!!
Way to go!!

Thank you :-)

I can attest that it was painful, but also very liberating!

Thanks! I'm just now realizing how careful I'll have to be; I do love it, though! :D

Thank you :-)

Rebecca Jo-
I hope you get that nose piercing done someday if you've always wanted it; that's how I was with this.

Blue State-
Fear not. No tattoo plans!

Fortunately I'm done having kids or you're right, that would be a concern!

Yankee Girl-
Thank you. I have really got to throw caution to the wind more often. I'm committed to bringing out the "real me" and in just having some fun with things; to bring back some spontaneity!

You need to post some tat pics on your blog!

Nanny Goats in Panties-
After you reaction to the last piercing, I would advise to stay far away from this :D

Secret Mom Thoughts-
I appreciate the kind words :-)

This looks awesome on your flat, flat tummy! You go, girl!!!

*looking on with admiration* You are soooo brave. I could never, never, ever, ever do such a thing. Though I think it is quite cute on people just like you who have an adorable and flat stomach.

You would think that I would be braver and not such a coward after delivering seven big-headed babes out of my over stretched loins. But since the momma factory has been closed, I look forward to having to experience no pain, so that is why I opt out of the 'belly button bling'.

But you go Carma girl! I am now off to enter your giveaway! :)

You've got a tight little belly! Love it! If it gets itchy you can use vitamin E oil but don't use hydrogen peroxide on it at all.

I got mine done when I was 18 and it hurt WAY more than my tattoos. It was sore for weeks.

Well if I had a flat and gorgeous tummy like yours I'd maybe thinking about belly bling...although I am such a baby about stuff that hurts...and it looks like that HURTS! However I'd need a belly ring the size of Texas to balance out the size of my big old gut!

carma said...

Thanks so much :D (about the flatness!)

I don't blame you! If I had seven kids, I'd probably go the painless route as well :-)

Thanks again for the advice..

True dat :D

Thanks for the compliment- and yes, pain is the keyword here, although it was over in a blink...I'll keep you in mind should I come across any of those Texas sized rings ;-) I don't think I saw any at this piercing shop...

beautiful bling my dear! Sounds much harder to take care of than a tongue piercing. I know all about this since I have one in the tongue and it healed super fast.
Have a fantastic weekend!

Wow! You belly dance? So cool! I have belly dancers in my theatre once a week...they are wicked cool.

As the belly button ring----I am way too wimpy to do that, but it suits you!

It is finally starting to heal well- after a week. Yeah, on the "healing schedule" it looked like all other piercings take a lot less time to heal for some reason!

I'm just in the early learning stages. Not sure if I'll ever be competent enough to perform!

One of these days I'll be brave enough to get my belly button pierced... I did get my nose pierced last year, and holy moly did it hurt! And apparently I have a 'small' nose, so the nose ring they put in was hard not to fiddle with because it looked like I had a silver booger hanging from my nose, so I always kept adjusting it took longer to heal before I could replace it with a smaller nose ring... :)

LOVE the pictures - thanks for looks great!! You ROCK!! :)

Carma! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and saying Hi!

I gotta share my belly button piercing story.

I was 19 (10 years ago) and my Mother asked one day if I was interesting in getting my belly button pierced. I thought "Heck yeah, add to the piercings!" (I was all pierced out)

I went first with no complications. My Mother went next and she bled..and bled..and still bleeds to this day if she catches it on her belt.

I totally forget I have it half of the time. Good job on being spontaneous and brave! 'Atta girl! :)
