The (Disturbing) Evolution of Kelly Pickler

I know I am a couple of months behind on this "breaking news," but I was waiting to see how Kelly Pickler looked at the ACM Awards Sunday night (disclosure: I didn't watch them but saw some photos- still counts!) before writing this post; and I have to admit that I was further perplexed by her unusual facial appearance.

Here's the Kelly we saw on A.I. (at left)

and then some bizarre botox disaster this past February (at right).

And, below is Kelly at the ACM Awards last weekend:

Ignore the mermaid outfit and look at her face. Does this look like Kelly Pickler to you???? If the caption that accompanied the photo did not say "Kelly Pickler" I would have had no idea it was her.

What has she done? Botox at 22- and possible plastic surgery (looks like she has a new nose in addition to her other two new additions)?

This is just crazy!!

I'll admit that I've had my own bouts of insecurity and have a full 20 years on Ms. Pickler, but I'll be damned if I am going to have someone shoot botulism into my head.

Kelly is way too young to be messing with this nonsense. I've read that after many years the muscles stay in the post-botox position, so there is no reversing it. I hope she stops before morphing completely into Hollywood Barbie and losing any resemblance to her former self, which was cuter than many of us could ever aspire to be!

I seriously think that in 50 years we are going to be a planet of clones. The couple of times VC caught wind of me mentioning fixing my droopy eyes, he said, "mom, don't do it." I think he is scared that I will come out looking like a clown - or Kenny Rogers. I have come to my senses and realized that as a mom, sometimes it is best to leave well enough alone (and as someone who is profoundly jinxed at times- elective surgery may not be the best idea) and take pride in the features that I have passed on to my son, and be glad that there is some resemblance, so everyone will know that I am his mom, because he is truly my pride and joy.

Do you see how I have turned a post about Kelly Pickler into a sappy tribute to my son??

Anyway, what I really want to say is that I hope she doesn't regret this should she one day become a mom. I doubt she is thinking that far into the future, but if I can pass on some words of wisdom to the younger generation, it's to revel in your differences and those qualities that make you uniquely you. [great, now the post is turning into a self-lovefest-- make it stop!!]

At a recent art opening I attended, the artist had her artist statement written on stationery that contained a logo of her silhouette, complete with bumpy nose and large mole. It was her "signature." I thought to myself, there is someone who is comfortable in her own skin. And then I mentally began preparing my own stationery (kidding!)

Kelly, I implore you, please stop the plastic surgery so I won't have to write any more posts like this!!! I need to return to my regularly scheduled Cheeseball Tuesdays.*

*please keep the UTZ photos coming in. I'll post your pics, feature your blog and give you some linky love in return.

Why did she go and do that? She was beautiful before! You're right, that is disturbing!

That is some serious f*ckery! She was actually cute. Bummer! Next time she blinks, it will be with her whole face! ;)

We were invited to the San Francisco Symphony a few weeks ago by one of Andy's vendors. Which meant we were up with the Gettys and not in our usual cheap seats. It was frightening to realize that the two of us were the only ones who had NOT had "work done". But then, we were the only ones who could actually smile at the conductor's jokes. Everyone else just turned their frozen masks to the front and clapped carefully so as not to dislodge tightened skin. Very scary.

Kelly said...

She looks like a FREAK!!!!!! I don't understand why you'd want to look like a puppet.

Oh and Kenny Rogers looks insane.

Kelly said...

OH! And Botox scares the crap out of me! If they would inject ass fat into my face, I would do it. As long as it was my own ass fat and not someone elses.

Nessa said...

She looks scary! Why oh why are young people doing this to themselves?

Heather said...

Looks like she did something to her eyes too, or is that "just" more botox?

Lucy said...

wow, I would never have known it was the same girl had you not told me. Very sad.

I'm left wondering WWAD?

She was beautiful before, what happend? She really is screwing herself up big time!!!!

A Woman Of No Importance said...

She was a young natural beauty before, and you can see that in the pics, but now she just looks surprised and Stepford Wives-ish... Your son is a treasure, carma, you have obviously brought him up so well...

I agree with you saying we'll all start looking like conformist, expression-free clones soon. Plastic surgery doesn't fix your mind or your hang-ups, people, and it's so easy to get addicted to having stuff done, it's frightening!

carma said...

Janna Bee-
You gotta wonder what was going on in her mind that she felt this was necessary

Aleigh-
Indeed. Blinking could be dangerous at this point!

Blue State-
Brilliant description of the scene! And aren't the cheap seats so much more fun? :D
I always like to be able to clap freely without dislodging anything ;-)

Kelly-
She has still not acknowledged having any plastic surgery AT ALL. She is in Michael Jackson denial mode. And Kenny Rogers- so so sad. He said himself that before his eyes had a softness and now that is gone :-(
If you decide to go with the ass fat transplant, your own would probably work best! Although I have a little extra if you run short ;-)

Nessa-
Seems that a scary epidemic has begun...

Heather-
Looks like more Botox (hopefully- as opposed to permanent surgery) & I really thought her nose was cute before. What was she thinking!!

Lucy-
Looks like 3 different people!

Mark-
I'm thinking he would run.... Although since Kim dumped him he may be in need of some Botox babe companionship.

tollesons4him-
I wonder if she has some type of body dismorphic disorder where she truly did not realize how cute she was! What a shame :-(

Woman of No Importance-
Thank you for your kind words and wise observations. I really think it's true that once you start trying to achieve facial perfection it is hard to stop; best never to start.

I have no idea who Kelly Pickler is, but I saw that second photo in a magazine a while back and it gave me nightmares for days...

Stacy (the Random Cool Chick) said...

She used to look cute and wholesome...now she looks old and hardened...like someone who has been around for years already. She looks like she could be her own mother... Just makes you wonder about the people she has around her encouraging her to do that to herself.

Your son is priceless! You're doing an awesome job raising him! :)

Email me - I'd be happy to help you with your sticky question... :)

I hate hate hate plastic surgery. It scares me and so often people don't look better than before. :-(

Jeannie Finelli, RN said...

Heartbreaking that such a beautiful girl would feel the need to alter her appearance so. The first side by side before & after photos are chillingly reminiscent of a Michael Jackson type evolution. The last photo (in the mermaid dress, lol) I would not have identified as Kelly Pickler. Wow. Are you sure?

I miss seeing famous and imperfect faces. Isabella Rosselini proved that it didn't take a small, upturned nose to make a pretty face. Cindy Crawford showed the world that a mole is not an imperfection, but a trademark.

I could go on, but I'll stop! How about a breakfast toast to helping the young women in our lives appreciate their own true beauty?

Jeannie Finelli, RN said...

Most importantly, though I didn't address it in my first comment, after her performance on Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? you'd think that taking some classes and reading some books would be her priorities!

Amy said...

Happy SITS Day! So sad - this young generation of celebrities seeking perfection. I wish they would realize the impact they have on young girls/women and start sending the message that we are all unique and to value our attributes instead of changing them.

JamieH said...

That's some scary stuff right there. Happy SITS Day!

Mary at My New 30 said...

Hmmm... I don't know how she can deny plastic surgery when the first thing she did {and it was OBVIOUS}, was breast enhancement??

Kelly is a beautiful gal, though that one picture is scary lol - I'm sure it's one of those bad moment/angle photo ops from the pops, but let's remember that Kelly has some very major 'mama issues' with rejection and until she faces that, forgives and lets that negative stuff go, she's gonna keep striving to prove to her mother and to the world that she is indeed 'perfect' in all ways. I'm afraid the plastic surgery will keep on a comin' till then - because as we all know, ain't nobody perfect.

Happy SITS Day.

Christy said...

Wow, no, I would not have recognized her at all. Good advice to the younger generation, indeed.

Housewife Savant said...

Good Morning and Happy SITS day! How exciting to see you're blog featured today.
This is a terrific post. I love your point about KP having children. How would she feel if she had a daughter who was born with her cute [original] nose? She'd want it back, to share what you have w/ VC. What I have w/Darling and my Dolls. Good point!

Rachel said...

WOW! I hadn't seen pictures of her recently, but what a difference between her American Idol days and now!

Astrid said...

Okay...I'll admit that I haven't a clue who she is...ducking in shame and hiding for cover now. She was gorgeous in that before photo and really kind of blah in that third one. The second one...WHOA! Scary stuff! What is up with people and Botox? Inject toxin into my skin? Not gonna happen!

Jennifer Juniper said...

It's scary that she has also latched on to young, sweet Taylor Swift! Run Taylor! Run like the wind! Happy SITS day ;)

sandy said...

have very sad for her! She WAS beautiful:0(

Pam said...

Happy SITS day! I agree with you 100%. She looked much better in her AI days and she is completely unrecognizable in that last photo. If 22 year olds feel the need to use botox, we are all lost.

Cher said...

haha! oh this is too funny! I never really was a huge fan of her...but truly she does not look like the same girl from AI!

Mimi said...

I think she's a small town girl with big time money & not good advisors. Poor thing.

she used to be so freaking cute. Just the utter definition of adorable. Now when I see her it makes me scared.

That really is SAD. She was a CUTIE PATOOTIE before. Now - just another "Hollywood".

Happy SITS day!

DiPaola Momma said...

I blame Joan Rivers, Dondald Trump, Cher... you know all those celebs that naturally look fab no matter their age or level of sanity! Can't say I really know who this lovely bacteria invested woman is (that makes me OLD, huh?) but I'd give my left ear lobe to look as cute as the before pic.

Enjoy your SITS day, speaking from experience ... it's a wild ride!!

Tiffany said...

That's too bad that she felt she needed to do that. She looked better before, when she was just herself.

Sarah said...

Shw was cuter before all of the stuff she did!

Becky said...

Weird! And I hadn't noticed before. Funny you should say clones b/c my husband always says that woman who have plastic surgery all start morphing into the same person!

Rachel said...

You know it's funny... if my Mom didn't tweez... she might look like Kenny Rogers... even without the Botox?!

Susan said...

Stopping by from SITS! Congrats on being the FB today.

I really feel for these young stars - the industry demands so much of them and they feel they have no choice but to go to the extreme. I hope Kelly can stop before it's too late - she was such a pretty girl.

Brandy said...

It's really sad that someone that beautiful felt like she needed plastic surgery. But everytime I turn on the tv, I see more and more people that have done it. ~sigh~

Poor kelly!

Shanda said...

I second that advice to the younger generation...in an attempt to "stand out" by being perfect they actually just blend in with the rest of those who look "fake." She was so adorable before!!

Enjoy the SITSta love!!

Farmgirl Paints said...

I have to agree she looked alot better before she did whatever to her face. Whatever happened to aging gracefully? Why is it so wrong to get old, we all do it right?

Cat said...

Have a great SITS day..

Amanda said...

Well, I probably won;t get any pplastic surgery. They wouldn't know where to begin!

But I agree with you... there is a big difference in those pictures. Sad, because she is (was) beautiful. There was never a need.

When I first saw this picture, I totally couldn't pinpoint what was so different, but you hit the nail on the head - outside of the Botox, it's that darn nose!!! What was she thinking???

Connie Weiss said...

She still looks cute but doesn't look like herself. Isn't that the point of being famous...so people will recognize you?

When my (o)(o) reach my belly button I intend to have them returned to their rightful spot on my chest.

Michele said...

Happy SITS day!
You'd think she would have known better! Unles your fixing some difigurement, you run the risk of turning out like Kenny Rogers or Michael Jackson!

Laura said...

I've never understood why these stars always want to have plastic surgery. KP was cute to start with. That February picture is a little scary.

Superjaxster said...

Stopping in from SITS.
And people wonder why women are so insecure...perhaps it is because even a beautiful girl has to get "work" done when she gets a little famous? She was so cute before all of this, now she is starting to look a little scary to me. 22 y.o.s shouldn't look like that.

Kasey said...

It's amazing what some people do to try and make themselves more beautiful then when it's over and done with you hear the stories about how they shouldn't have done all that. Have you seen that cartoon of the young pretty girl and then the old lady where her "assets" were the only things that looked good? It's a shame.

I loved Kelly Pickler...that was the only season of A.I. that I watched. Booo!

Lisa said...

Um, EWWWWWWW. That's about all there is to that.

I would have killed (well, not really) to look like her back in 2007, but there is such a thing as too much work. And she's proven that.

Mandy said...

I don't really care that she had botox, to each his(or her) own, but her makeup especially eye makeup is out of control! And I agree I don't think I'd want botulism injected under my skin.

I liked her natural nose better. It suited her face.

She's crazy young to be getting botox. I think it's irresponsible for whoever is providing the botox to give it to people in their twenties.

Toni said...

Omgosh. What in the world did she do that to herself for? She was so cute. Note to self: when thinking of plastic surgery cue thoughts of kelly pickler and think after this my kids may not recognize who i am.

Kenny Rogers is my hero-- I want to look JUST LIKE HIM!! J/K. I loved your post!! You are so funny!

Evy said...

Firstly, I'd like to say that I really like your blog!

I work at a dermatology clinic where we do Botox along with so many other things. I see all kinds of pretty, natural girls walk in and then walk out, looking nothing like they did when the came in. While I don't necessarily think Botox is evil, I think that we are given too much freedom with it and turn ourselves into... scary resemblances of our old selves.

And even though there are cases where Botox can enhance your image, I have set my mind in stone that I would never have a correction done to me - either Botox, or a plastic surgery. I prefer my natural self, thank you very much! Haha.

Great post! Thank you for sharing!

Rachel said...

I can't quite understand why a 22 year old would mess with her face that much. I'm 24 and although there are some areas I could change, it wouldn't be my face. She is entertaining though!

Stopping by from SITS. now honestly I had only seen Kelly's dress, and thought...ugh, but looking a bit closer to her face, good lord what was she thinking! Pretty woman gone wild on botox.......or something.

Shannon said...

I completely agree! As a photographer I fix some of peoples facial issues, but I always seem to back off of them on myself. Maybe age is a good thing helping me accept my funky face as it really is.
