[I've had in mind to write this post for a while. Funny that I chose to write it on the heels of yesterday's post!]While MB & I were perusing the city over the holidays, we happened into one of those funky contemporary furniture stores that sell pillows for $170 (each!). MB happened to take notice of the scantily clad employee who was arranging some of the pricey knick knacks.
As we were leaving the store, I said to him "marry someone like that and you will be kissing my feet every day since I am like marrying a guy compared to a high-maintenance chick like that" and I wasn't kidding...
Here's a short list of my stereotypical male tendencies (yes, I said "stereotypical" - so I know not every male possesses these qualities) sheesh!:
1. For my 30th birthday gift, I requested a car detailing
2. I clean my car tire rims using a toothbrush to get in the crevices
3. I don't wear nail polish
4. My hair/makeup routine takes about 15 minutes and I'm good to go
5. I prefer lounging around in jeans or sweats to dressing up
6. I am not overly emotional unless provoked and then you'd want to get the heck out of dodge - fast!
7. As I have said before, I don't do frou frou
8. You will find no knick knacks at my place
9. I don't make a big production about preparing food (much to MB's chagrin)
10. I change my oil and rotate the tires every 5,000 miles religiously
11. I have a couple of close friends; you won't see me at the mall with a gaggle of girls
12. I like to get to the point and like for you to do the same
13. I do our taxes
14. I check stock prices
15. I burp (albeit quietly - ending with an ahhhhh...to distract MB when he is on the computer)
16. I prefer an un-PC comedy to a "click flick"
17. I don't have any cute and cuddly pets that I talk baby talk to (not that there is a problem with that)
18. I don't enjoy shopping; I'm am happy to browse; no need to buy
19. I can appreciate a good SNL skit involving Andy Samberg
20. I am not on the cell phone all day with friends which is why I have the 25 minute plan
*to be continued as I develop more male tendencies*
**I have an awesome giveaway on my review blog! You can enter until May 4, 2009.

nothin' wrong with that! :) keep rockin it.
hilarious...and so true for me as well.
although i cry at sappy commercials sometimes...i think thats where the chick in me comes out.
Chat Blanc-
thanks! Been doin' things this way for 16 years now - so he's gotten used to it ;-)
Julie-
I was just reading an article about an elderly married couple talking about their new dishwasher (in that long-married couple kind of way) and I got misty-eyed. Didn't want to put that in the post though or it might have blown my "man" cover!

It's this line that scares me the most.."*to be continued as I develop more male tendencies*"
Are we to see scratching, burping and the occasional use of Beano products next on the blog??? (Wait two of those you've just blogged about :-O
Now if you can whip up a recipe with double whisked mayo, cheeseballs and chickpeas I think you'll triple your readership :-)
PS Liking the new cheesy blog colors :-)
I've gotcha beat. I go clothes shopping once a year whether I need it or not! Hey, I found your excellent blog thru Nablopomo...
Mark-
In retrospect, that line scares me as well!! The day I go to the "test kitchen" to whip up the culinary feast you mentioned, I will have the economy-sized Beano firmly in my grip. Don't want a repeat of the chickpea episode...
and thanks for noticing the new cheesy colors; a subtle nuance, yet it conveys so much...
carma
Blue State-
Fancy your finding me through NaBloPoMo! Clothes shopping once a year: You definitely have me beat. Maybe you'll convince me to sign up for Purchasing Clothes Once a Year PCOY next ;-)

I'm glad you stopped by today. I like your blog too and I'll be back. I recognize some of these things in myself but I'm all about the chick flicks and girly things too. I'm conflicted. ;)
Cheers! Thanks for the words over at mine. I hope I can inspire people with my blog so YOU made my dreams come true.
Blue Violet-
I do have a girly side, too, but I had to hide it for the purposes of this post.
Zucchini Breath-
I'll be checking back for your recipes. Not sure that I'm up for raw; but I am always up for healthier :-)

Hi Carma:
Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment at the end of that ranty, rant, rant.
I appreciate that you survived my whining :).
You are over at Nablopomo, too? I'm newly registered there.
Speaking of un-PC comedy, we caught Lisa Lampaneli's new HBO special last eve.
Hi-larious.
It's amazing how many of those things fit me as well.
Enjoy NaBloPoMo this month and thanks for commenting on my blog.
skyewriter & content2bme-
thanks for stoppin' by and commenting. Hopefully we will all earn our fancy NaBloPoMo badges come months end :-) I look forward to following your blogs.

Hmmm, slightly ironic that you came to visit on my sewing post. Good thing you missed the "love my shoes/must go shopping/cried at another movie" posts ; )
My sister totally hangs out at your end of the girl spectrum, so it's not totally foreign. Probably good for me to remember the car needs love too.
On the upside, I post a lot about dating. As a service to all of you in relationships mostly reminding you to look at your one and only and say "Thank God I'm not dating."
1 down 27 posts to go!!
dallasdiva-
Thanks for visiting. I was duly impressed with your dress form, being that this is definitely another girly area I am lacking in. And, yes, thanks for the dating info. It reminds me that I am fortunate to ever have gotten married, especially now that I consider my male tendencies! Just prepared my 2nd post; 26 more to go. Yay!

My comment just vanished . Try again. Will go and look at your juggling, more than I can do.
MA was special, keeping her link on the blog as long as possible.
Bloke stuff- hate shopping not big on hair makeup can cook but don't make a fuss about it.Detest texting chatting on phone for nothing.
Cannot sew but can knit crochet, make soft toys . Like Hello Kitty ,own one fluffy cat, one plush looking cat, gerbils, fish. Somewhat in the middle perhaps.
fizzycat-
MA helped forge so many friendships amongst those of us whose common link was her blog. It's too bad she's not here to see what an impact she made...

I hate talking on the phone! I have to apologize all of the time for my poor phone skills.
Janna-
Definitely. I'll take email over the phone any day of the week, especially when it comes to calling people I don't know well. I always check to see if I have their email address first :-)
carma
Hillarious! Hmmm... sounds like me too...
You just described me exactly! I must be a guy, too!
I think I watch way to much HGTV to be considered a guy!
Funny post! Happy SITS day!
You're a down to earth SITSa!
Loved this post - it gave me a good laugh. I'm not high maintenance either- prefer jeans and a shirt, do my shopping online, don't wear a lot of makeup and can be ready in a flash, I don't go to the mall. I do however cook and bake - a lot and I don't change my oil anymore. Happy Happy SITS Day!
Too funny! Most of your list...it applies to me too!
HEY! I resemble some of those remarks LOL!
Happy SITS Day!
Happy SITS Day! I haven't been in a mall in 3 years, and I love my remote, so I'm a man, too! Happy SITS day!
I really enjoyed your post--while I am pretty "girly", I could definitely relate to several of the things you mentioned!!!
Excellent list.
I'm pretty low maintenance myself.
Yep...I'm like that in most respects too...certainly not all! I make hubby do the taxes! Oh...and I hate scary, bloody movies.
:)
Happy SITS day!
Okay, I'm half a man according to the list...is that a hermaphrodite? Happy sits!
17. baby talk to kids and animals is something I can do without. props to you
19. Adam is my new comedy hero!
Hehe! You sound just like my hubby!
25 minute cell phone plan? Is there even such a thing?! haha---sometimes my husband tells me I act like a man (probably when I'm not nurturing enough as he'd like). I'm gonna find some high-maintenance chick soon and compare myself to her...he'll see the good thing he's got goin! HAHA---love the perspective!
You ARE a low maintenance girl!
Congrats on your SITS feature today!
I have WAY too many of those!!!
And I also asked for a car detailing for my birthday!! It was like a brand new car!
Happy SITS day!
so funny! my husband thinks I am High Maintenance but I disagree. It is all very "When Harry Met Sally". Oh, you probably haven't seen it! :)
I appreciate that you're as tag-happy and Andy-Samberg-friendly as I am.
High maintenance is no fun. And I should know, because my husband once owned a Jaguar.
delilah at www.unrulyhelpmeet.com
love this post!!!! Hooray for you!
Too funny!
It's official - I'm high maintenance. And we are complete opposites! But then again the hubs is too so thats a good thing.
Well, although I recoil at the sight of pink and love a good burp myself, I am inclined to appreciate the stero-typical roles of men and women.
I like that men are supposed to be manly and that women are so allowed to be feminine.
I think God made us that way for a reason.
I am also glad that you are able to look at your character and find so many good qualities! All women should do this!! You should encourage your readers to make a list of good things about themselves as well!
God bless-
Amanda
There is nothing wrong with that. I myself have some of those tendencies, but not all. I guess you could say I have my moments when it suits me best. :)
LOL! That pretty much describes me too, with a few exceptions.
Funny, I have a lot of those tendencies too, but I never thought of them as being like a guy.
Love your Blog. Keep it up
hahahaha!
I'm so a boy. I tell my husband that he's lucky that I can appreciate the fact the he needs a guys night out.
I've been telling my husband that I'm more of a man than some of his friends for a long time. He enjoys it though...especially in the bedroom ;)
So cool.
you sound like my neighbour..she's such a low maintance chick..her hubby is so lucky
I am a woman and proud of it! I even have waterproof masacra for those unpredictable crying times.
I'm a girly girl with male tendencies. My husband's damn lucky.
A 25-minute plan? No, I'd die.
Awesome! lol I think I actually display a good portion of those traits. Hmm...actually my husband and I laugh all the time that it takes him longer to get ready than I.
I could totally be a guy too. My husband has it lucky. I don't wear make-up because it makes me feel like my face is suffocating and my hair gets combed in the morning and then whatever happens to it from there, happens and I will not fix it beyond sweeping it out of my face with my fingers.
I am a little mix of both I think. Must have the cell phone, it's one of my life lines ;)
I don't think that these are anti-feminine qualities. I'm sure these are true of lots of women.
at risk of coming off as having no sense of humour I just want to say that this kind of offended my inner feminist.
Great post!
I think it's good for a woman to have a few male tendencies - brings us down to Earth, you know!
I loved that post. Thank you for sharing!
Way to go girl! Or, um, man? Girl-man? :-)
You and I appear to be twins. Except I do enjoy a good chick flick!
High Maintenance is not in my vocabulary either.
Guys do their own taxes? I take pride in taking care of my car too; I can change the oil, tires, brakes, etc. Hair and makeup take less than 5 minutes for me sometimes. I need this 25-minute cell phone plan - I hate talking on the phone - except with friends and family I can't see very often. But I do love chick flicks and am a girly-girl (who doesn't mind getting her hands dirty ocassionally :)
Happy SITS Day!!

Great post!
Oh yeah? Well I bet you own a hair brush! I don't! LOL I'd rather tie my hair up in a knot on top of my head instead.
Funny read! I have this picture of Al on Married with Children, hand in his pants as he watches the tube LOL!
haha...so many of those could apply to me!
Congrat's on your day in the spotlight! Thanks for the good laugh. Keep on keepin on w/those qualities! Nothin' wrong w/not being a big girly girl!
HAPPY SITS DAY!
No nail polish, baby talk or dressing up here, either.
Have a great one...
I think every girly girl would have to say she has a few of those same tendencies! :) If she is honest!
I have to agree with some of your traits! I'm not a frou frou either. Simple and plain is my way. =)
Right on! P.s. like you pic on the side! Have a great day!
Funny, have a great day!
Awesome! I could add tons to the list, myself :)
something for me to ponder....
Happy SITS day :)
What a fun list! I think however, that I must be a girly girl. But not too high maintence. Congrats on your sits day!
I am so with you on most of your list!
Mega Tomboy here. I am a gearhead that loves my makeup, shoes, purses, and girly-girl things. But who says you can't fix a car in high heels? ;)
Love,
Taryn
I think I am a good blend of both. I'm not too frou frou girly but I like my makeup and designer jeans...and my car detailed.
I'd have to say I'm more like you...jeans and tshirt, man flicks, no shopping or phones. HOwever I dont care one fig about my vehicles.
I am picturing you Al Bundy style now....nah..you're too pretty to be a man. At least too pretty to be THAT man.
BlogBaby
Stopping by via SITS
And I would say I am like a man because my husband pretty much told me I looked like one with my hair pulled back.
Awesome.
Thanks sweety.
It's vas time.
My husband complains about how long I take to get ready even though a) I don't wear makeup, and b) I don't do my hair beyond running a comb through it. He has NO IDEA how good he has it. LOL
Amen sister friend!
I love your blog! And congrats on being featured!
i'm very low maintenance... just like you. nice and easy like sunday morning :)
You remind me of my friend Heidi, except for number 12, that's more me and the not over emotional one!
Happy SITS day again!
LoL! Nice post!
Hmmm that makes me sound like a guy too! Rock it!
I bet my list is longer :)
I can relate to a lot of these. In addition, I LOVE football and my Sundays are totally scheduled around the Colts schedule. : )
Happy SITS day!
hilarious!!`
Oh man, that's funny (excuse the pun. okay fine, I did it on purpose!)
I am a chicky chick but not TOO girly! You are a great blogger!
SO funny! Happy SITS day!
This is hilarious! It describes me perfectly as well! My husband recently told me to open a Pottery Barn account, and I turned him down. I need to get in touch with my feminine side a little.
What a fun post! I can totally relate. I am far too in touch with my masculine side, though not enough to do my own car maintenance. Haven't a clue about that. Nor sports either. All those big contests other people live and die by - World Series, SuperBowl, Basketball playoffs. I never even know who's playing and I don't care. But I am a low-maintenance kind of girl and lucky for me I have a husband who cooks, or we'd starve!
I never thought about it before but I have ALOT of those tendencies. I've been checking out some of your post and enjoying your blog...have a great day!
I LOVE THE HONESTY!! Hair and makeup are NOT my style either. I prefer pony tails, and all naaaatuuuraal. My hubby married me anyways, so, I see no need to change things =). I love your blogs!
Absolutely nothing wrong with that! I feel as if we are kindred spirits...
I prefer sports (taught my husband about hockey) and I hate shopping unless I find an incredible sale--and usually that is for my kids!!.
I'm with you on being the "man" woman.... I don't quite make it to your level, I suppose but I can do sports with the best of 'em! That has to count for something, right?
